I would look at ETF's and DRIP Plans. I am not a fan of mutual funds anymore. Too many fees associated with most of them.

Make THE BEST investment you can:
Invest in yourself and in your own education.
Once you have that knowledge, no one can ever take it away.
Using that money for your education will reduce the stress on yourself and your family.
Your loans will be reduced by that much.
Other than paying back loans, you can do more important things with your money.
AND you'll be a much stronger candidate for other loans such as mortgages or personal loans.

5,000 treasuries (mutual fund)
5,000 silver (250 ounces)
5,000 commodities ETF (DBC)
5,000 common stock |

There are so many knuckle heads here.
You have to ask yourself what your risk tolerance is. How aggressive do you want to be? What is your time horizon? Do you need this money in a jam?
No investment is fail safe. The best would be a 5.75 percent triple tax free government issue. But you see...totally backed by the government, but only five and seventy-five basis points. Risk - reward
Mutual funds aren't free of risk?? who's this person kidding?
Just because you get a dividend you still have to worry that the capital you invested is going to be there when you sell.
Commodities?!!!!!!?? Is this person insane?
The commodities market is the most volatile market I know?
Oh ya sure.....take that twenty and invest it the RBOB futures why not. Find yourself an investment specialist that will give you the time. 20K is a great way to start a relationship with a broker although you will pay a commission, if reputable it'll be worth it. Don't always think you have to go to a huge firm either. Get to know the broker and ask questions and read. |
