By doing a LOT of reading and research before spending one dime! It's not investing if you don't know what you're doing. Learn the basic vocabulary for investing. Find out what the risks are. Learn and apply the meaning of "Due Diligence". NEVER buy pink sheets! Don't invest money you can't afford to loose. Kiplingers magazine is a great resource and easy to read. They don't just target investors with mega bucks, they have excellent advice for beginners as well. Don't fall for the advertising gimmicks on the internet either. The Motley Fool is an excellent on line resource. Read, read, read, and then read some more! Don't worry about the next "hot stock", there will always be opportunities.
