Great... you're off to a good start. Asking strangers whose qualifications and motives can never be known.... is the scariest way to find out how to invest your money.
Learn "asset allocation". Create one that meets your criteria. Invest in no-load, low fee Mutual Funds. Don't chase performance. |

This is NOT the best place to get advice for such a large sum of money. Diversification will be advisable. You should seek professional advice, from more than one adviser. |

I think with 100,000 pounds probably US equity market is a good long term investment. Otherwise, if you are in London, probably you could consider investment grade French wines particularly the rarest of the Burgs. |

There are lots of investments which show a good return, even in this poor market. With £100,000-oo you might consider investing in artworks and they're not nearly so expensive as you might think, but most well known artist's works will appreciate in value over time. The same is true of antiques, esp. collectables and memorabilia.
Investing heavily in art and antiques is exactly where most of the Russian oligarchs have gone with their spare cash, thus, those of us who can afford it, should do the same. As in, they know somthing which we don't know! The Rich always find ways of making money even in what might become a depression.
Look at what people are really spending their money on, if they've still got some left that is. Food and movies. Movies? Yes, because people want a morale booster, thus the movies never lose money in a downturn, in fact things actually start to pick up for them.
So to sum up a bit. Shares in supermarkets, buy stocks in movie studios, buy art and antiques.
Here's a preview of what's on offer in the world of art auctions.
First, Bonhams - just click on the flag which relates to where you live.
http://www.bonhams.com/
. . .and, you don't even have to turn up at the auction. You can buy-online and on the telephone.
More auction houses below.

Okay, I'll leave it there for you to think about. But b4 I go, I'll explain that I saw a work by Banksy on sale at an auctioneers for a mere £7,000. Artworks of this kind usually go up in value almost by the hour.
My one biggest mistake was NOT buying the last. . . .oh well.
Good luck. |

Nessie from Loch Ness
|
In the bank of Nessie, under the water here in Inverness.
It's very safe with me guarding it, however you will get no interest (like a normal current bank account) but Your money won't decrease when negative interest comes in shortly. |

You have done right asking here.
The financial advisers I used were as much use as a chocolate teapot and YA is a good a place to ask and would probably do no worse.
Good luck |
