You cant go safe.. but this is the perfect time to invest! actually best if you wait a little longer.. stalks probably going down still in my opinion but don't quote me on that =P.
If you want a profit, for sure go with something moderately risky. Remember to invest your money in different places and more then one thing. the economy is risky.
I'd personally suggest a long term investment if you don't really know what your doing. that's a lot of money to risk so try investing portions of it in long term, and others in short term. and also try switching up between low, moderate, and high risk.
The higher your interest percent the higher the risk, and the higher the risk the higher the gain/loss. |

It depends what you mean by safe. Low risk low reward might be Government Bonds. It really depends on what you expect from the investment and what the actual returns will be in the future. Cash is going to be pretty useless over the coming years, as we will have low interest rates and higher inflation. You could get a negative return. Assets however should produce a better return. Assets like quality stocks and maybe later property. |

Most people say US Treasury Bills are the safest. Maybe Japanese are as safe, and German as well. You could have currency risk, depending on where you live. |

when i invested i went through my bank and talked to their financial advisor. they will give you many options, just tell them you want it in an account that wont lose anything but draw as much interest as possible. |

Let me get this straight, you have 100,000 cash and don't have a clue about investing. All righty then! Any guaranteed interest fund but avoid bonds, things like shorterm T bills are paying about 5-6%. Anything in the stock market is a gamble. Stocks are also long term investments, that's why they use the term "go Long". I would keep about 10,000 aside for emergencies and another 10,000 to play with in the stock market but invest in a variety of stable blue chip stocks until you learn the ropes and never put all you eggs in one basket. Good luck, your going to need it.
Another tip is go to a local brokerage house, they have computers in the lobby where quite a few old timers hang out, drink coffee and day trade stocks. They are always eager to help a new comer and will teach you the ropes. beware of soliters like spink guy up there he is always on this catagory trying to solicite people into money scams. There are a lot of sharks in these waters so don't get bit.
One more thing, don't ever ever ever trade options or buy short. That kind of trading is strictly for inside traders and inside trading is illegal. I did it twice on the same stock, the second time they froze my trading and I was investigated. |

Buy short-term T bills or CDs at the bank. You can also buy ETFs on these. |

At this present time, i say buy lot's and lot's of lottery tickets!
Seen has with a bank your only insured up to £35,000. The rest you wouldn't get back if the Bank was to go under.
Which at the present time... I wouldn't trust any bank! |
