Depends on when you need the money back. It could be a nice down payment on a house. It could be invested in mutual funds. Or it could be invested in just a savings account if you needed the money back soon. Investment depends on when you need the money back to use.

Half in the stock market and half in you own small business. Drop me a line if you need more help.

At the moment I would park it at one of the money market funds pay 4% plus. We are in a rising interest rate environment and I would want to wait for the new Fed Chairman to show us at what point he will stop raising rates. The markets, Real Estate & Stocks seem to be nearing, at or past the tops for now.

As to what you should do, it depends on what your situation is like. Are you working? Need more income? Need to start your own business? Young or old? Conservative or a Gambler?

I would invest in real estate where housing price didn't rise for last 5 year like it did in Nevada or Arizona. I could also invest in some large growth stocks in some specific industry like biotech, utility.

I would invest in option spreads. If you are asking what you should invest it in, you need to ask yourself a number of questions. Do I need this money(now or in the future)? Do I need it to grow over time or do I need it to produce monthly income? What is my risk tolerance, that is, am I comfortable watching the account drop by 20% as long as I feel that it will increase by a much larger %. Or am I only comfortable if it is totally safe and earning a small %. Bottom line-you must invest according to your comfort level. You must also use proper money management. Simply put, divide your 30,000 into perhaps 5-10 equal parts, invest gradually and in differnt assets. If your investment moves against you, again based on your comfort level, get out. Don't let it continue to move against you. Money management is THE MOST important aspect of investing. Learn proper money management and you will survive long enough to make the return you are looking for.
The first link is geared for daytrading but can be adjusted for longer term trading. Make sure you check out the second link. It is quite good.
