avoid equity mutual funds.... Far too much volatility for that short a time...
since you already know the money is spent.... and i assume dont want to have less of it in 2 years than today. (not that anyone does... i just mean you may not be able to afford the house if the stock market was down 2 years from now) STAY SAFE... i'd ladder CD's ... 25k 3mo 25k 6mo 50k 1yr and reinvest for that target date as they mature.

no mutual funds.
no corporate bonds
no loans to friends that promise to pay you back with interest
i'd even avoid the mmkts since cd's should pay more interest and you don't need liquidity. |

I would suggest educating yourself about investing and the financial world so you are able to make a decision that best meets your needs and at the same time continuously maximizes your returns and helps you to make intelligent tax related decisions. CDs are good. I don't think I trust the stock market anymore, and 2 years isn't a very long time. Stocks do better long term. |

Under your bed is actually better that all the above.
How can you still invest it if you've already put it towards a downpayment?
