Where to invest £50K and get maximum returns?
I am thinking of re-mortgaging my property and releasing £50K. I want to invest this amount and try and get a return of of 40%. How can this be achieved?

One of the best investment for 40 % return are Chinese stocks-
as EDU,MR.LFC all of them with more than 60% yearly return.
Of course there is risk too ,but it is much lower than normal.
If you want less risky investment Chinese mutual funds are i thing currently the best.
For example OBCHX is up 77.4 % year to date and still a lot of upside potencial.
China"s Gdp is growing with more than 10 % in last several years and is likely to continue similar growth.
If you want more speculative investments -watch for China IPO's.
Good luck !!!
And remember past performance does not guarantee future one"s.
Do your own due diligence.

Other than gambling it, you can't. Think of the risks involved. Set your sights lower and put it in an internet based savings account. You won't make much above 5-6%, but your money will still be there when you need it and in the meantime you'll be able to sleep soundly at night.

40%???? LOL. Good hedge funds make 20%. You can get 12% or so with Brazillian bonds. Anything else, well, is pure speculation. You might want to contact someone at an invest bank who works in private wealth management (they'll laugh, though, if you tell them you want 40%).

If you are under 60 and allready have a good place to live and enough for food, why not look into rejuvination therapies? They are within sight, and you might just be one of the ones who get sorted. You might live to 600 or longer.. good investment or what? I leave the risk asessment to you..

Rely on your own analysis. When crude has dipped to its bottem line then go in 50% with one of the larger oil stocks on the LSE. 49% hi interest account. 1% on lottery tickets.

if u want a high return for ur investment u need to be ready to take the risk, like the others said, may b gamblin in a casino.
the other way is to buy stocks. analyse stock prices, more in fo on finance.yahoo.com how they are doing now. start stock trading.
one way of getting return is through dividends. however some companies may not pay any dividend. and even if they do it is only a little proportion. so not a high return. the other way is to wait until share prices rise. for eg: if u bought shares from google last month for $400, u can sold them for $500 today getting a profit of $100 withing just a month for eash 400 u invested. another classic example is Racal(the company which originally owned Vodafone) if u invested in £1000 in Racal in 1960s u wud b a millionaire now. so withing 40 months ur investment turned a million. its all about taking risks. unfortunately all low risk opportunities yield low returns.
good luck with ur investment.

Remortgaging to get 50K, want return of 40%. Can not be safely done. need therapy, unreasonable.

Risky answer play options - make many small "investments" hoping for a cumlative home run knowing there is a risk of loss.

Or a single hand of blackjack?

Unless you are a professional stock trader (as in that is your day job) you aren't going to make 40% a year. Aggressive investing for me can make 20% or so a year in a good year but getting that is quite risky. And bonds and savings accounts are under 10% a year for sure. Set your sights a bit lower and read A LOT of investment books and you can probably make 15-20% a year )which adds up fast.)

RUTH M
Don't think you can get that kind of return by investing in bonds, probably better off starting a property porfolio and buying another couple of "buy to let" property's. There are some good btl mortgages around and you can go for interest only payments too.
