A list of my favorites:
TIAA Equity Index
Vanguard Total Stock Market Index
Vanguard Star
Schwab 1000 Fund
Fidelity Four in One Index Fund
Each has solid returns and each has an expence of less than 0.5%
Best of luck! |

I would not ask that here. You need to research the mutual funds to see if they are stable and how they perform. You might talk to a financial advisor. Fidelity Investments has been around a while, has performed solidly, and offers a variety of mutual funds for different needs. |

Vanguard, Fidelity, American Century and T Rowe Price are all good mutual funds. Once you decide, you will have dozens of choices to pick from depending how much risk you want to take. The closer you are to retirement the more conservative you want to be. Plus they can guide you by calling them or online. Hope this helps |

There is some good advice here. I agree the closest with Tom1. I have had good results from fund groups he mentions. |

This is a good overview of things to look for when choosing a mutual fund: http://www.fool.com/school/mutualfunds/basics/choosing.htm
Definitely look here: https://flagship5.vanguard.com/VGApp/hnw/content/PlanEdu/InvestorEdu/PEdIESelMFHwToSelMFContent.jsp
This one will help you allocate your assets using the Ibbotson method. I would suggest you choose an asset allocation first, then screen funds in those categories. There are some excellent funds out there that do charge a load, but they are few and far between. You are better off choosing a good, cheap fund from a solid company like Vanguard, Fidelity or T. Rowe Price.
Vanguard publishes these excellent guides, they are free. http://flagship4.vanguard.com/VGApp/hnw/LiteratureRequest?FW_Activity=FindLiteratureActivity&FW_Event=subcategory&cat_cd=LERN&sub_cat_cd=PLTK&entryPoint=ELF&usage_cat=LERNPLTK&active_menu_item=CBD_PLAINTALK_INVESTMENT_GUIDES |
