Which companies can survive a US recession?
If US goes into recession, then which are the companies that will not be at risk because majority of their revenue comes from outside the US? I'm trying to check for stock buying opportunity for long-term (2-4 years). Also, I'm thinking of buying only big companies with strong financials. Any suggestions?

well it looks to me that the government is trying to combat recession by lowering the interest rates, and i think they've lowered it as low as possible to get people from buying again...at least that is what the government is hoping that people would do.
i think Apple company will survive this one ;)

if you otherwise don't care about any noneconomic implications of these industries, i'd check out the Vice Fund, VICEX, and the companies this fund invests in.

its holdings are in aerospace/defense, alcoholic beverages, gaming, and tobacco.

the idea is that war will always be profitable, and that especially when the economy is down, people will still and even more likely be feeding their relatively cheap habits, namely drinking, gambling, and smoking.

Utilitis stocks do very well as do consumer staples. However if your gonna go out 2-4 years ...then just buy the ETF's and hold them long term...you will look like a champ in the long run. I suggest SMH, QQQQ, PGJ, XLF, and MVV you cover alot of the market and will sleep better at night not having to baby sit stocks.

I am a stock investor as well, and from reading up and just the general environment, the recession is going to hit hard... Coming from an Asian background, when the IMF crisis hit there in 1997, retail sales fell sharply everywhere with the exception of cosmetics, gambling and cheap food and alcohol (i.e. beer and ramen noodles). These products' sales actually went up.

If anything, the many economists believe that the US is going to get hit a lot harder than the world in general. Plus, it's pretty hard to find big companies that don't sell their products overseas. Research these recession-proof industries, see how it works out for you.
