Assuming that you are living in Europe, I would suggest Florida. Property prices have dropped back about 20% in the last year and the dollar is very weak which makes the dollar price very cheap when paying in sterling or euros.
Property prices have always been considerably lower than here and standards are very high. |

Turkey, but get in quick before they join the EU. When they do finally join the EU, then that is the time to sell.
Bulgaria and Romania are still fairly cheap, but prices are rising fast! Avoid Spain completely, you're about 20 years too late for that. |

I've been watching some programmes and they say eastern europe is a good place to invest. There are some nice holiday resorts there. Croatia is beautiful but not many people have ever gone there on holiday really, it's just staring to gain popularity. Housing is still cheap and it's a beautiful country, look at this pic:

I am vacationing in Oahu right now, so I would say Hawaii. The weather is perfect, and there is no political risks. But I think the best way to own real estate is through REITs (real estate investment trusts). These are companys that own real estate but their shares trade like any stock. This makes your real estate investment very easy to sell, unlike a regular real estate investment. Here is a link of some of my favorite REIT stocks:

This portfolio is from http://www.top10traders.com - this is a free site that lets you create a portfolio of stocks with $100,000 in "play" money. Each day the site ranks the best performing portfolios, so you can see how your picks perform compared to other investors.
Hope this helps. |

You want a country that is politically stable, offers tax benefits to foreigners buying property there and preferably one where the population is at least tolerant of your presence.
The Caribbean is nice, but hurricane prone and expensive.
Hawaii is great but even more expensive than the Caribbean.
Malta is becoming popular with ex-pat Americas. Costa Rica and Honduras have been trying to attract foreign investment. Honduras has the best tax package right now.
Many Americans and Candians have retired to south central Mexico. The climate is perfect year round, there are lots of fellow countrymen to associate with, the native polulation is friendly and health care and housing costs are affordable.
It is also easy to get back to the states quickly if necessary. |
