Which is better dividends paid quarterly or monthly?

cookiesmom
monthly so that the balance increases each month and then dividends are paid on the increased amount

It's actually better quarterly because if the company pays out dividends on a monthly basis, their equity will descrease at a higher rate. Therefore, there will not by any dividends to be paid out at all.

The question is too general. It's not just getting the money sooner or how much. What could the company do with that money if they held it another two months? And then the 2nd of the qtr, hold that for another month? Would they have been able to make you even more money than you putting it in savings? If they kept it and bought something or paid a debt off, would the stock price go up?(By more than a little dividend)

Monthly. Some good answers already given. Adding to those is high inflation. After WW I Germany experience inflation (supposedly) more than 5% per day and people demanded their pay on a daily basis, before it lost its' daily value.
Aside from the bother, more frequently, the better.

time value of money...the sooner you get it, the sooner you can start earning intrest on it.

monthly. :)

What matters is the percentage paid, not whether they are paid on a quarterly basis or a monthly basis.

As a investor you make ur money to work effectively and efficiently. if the company gives monthly divident you will get divident early and the same time u r getting money from active part early. so u r losing overall earning
In this particular case i prefer quarterly.

In general i dont prefer dividend funds becaz we are taxed indirectly at the source i.e divident delivery tax.

For example current value of each unit say 50$ and face value of 10$ company announced 50% dividend, so the dividend amt is 50% of face value i.e 5$. at source they deduct divident delivery charge 10% of dividend i.e 0.5$,
your 50$ units come down to 49.5$

45$(price after div) + 4.5$(div recieved after tax) = 49.5$

Generally long term gains are tax free.
