The other answers have pretty much covered it, but I just thought that I would add one thing. The retail sector tends to be a bit more volatile as a whole, because whereas most other sectors report their earnings only once a quarter, retail stocks report sales on a monthly basis, and good or bad sales can move their stock significantly.

specifically a company that has not had any earnings that suddenly announces that they do have earnings. The street goes nuts over such announcements. Also buy outs.
