Who buys shares when you sell them?
If the price of shares in a company are dropping because people are selling them and nobody is buying them, where are they going? who is buying them? surely nobody would buy shares of a sinking company? please let me know i would appreciate it

The market makers. They are a part of any brokerage. The system in Uk is fully automated so the price adjusts as to %age of shares sold/bought.So the MMakers hold unsold shares. For smaller shares, the market maker is human and adjusts prices as and when he wants,so tricky to predict and invest in.
Don't forget that the market makers also make money from the spread as well as SPrice movements

The price of shares fall until such time as someone will buy them. If a company is in such trouble that no one will buy them, you will either not be able to sell them at all or the price will fall to a point where someone will take a gamble. That's why you can find some companies' shares selling for under 1p each.

"Nobody is buying them" is an untrue statement. There are buyers - just at a lower price. You couldn't sell your shares if literally nobody was buying.

DudeMatt
For every seller there is a buyer, the buyer puts in their "bid" and the seller puts in their "ask" price computers will match them up and this causes the fluctuations in share prices.

The investor who's buying from you.

Well in actual fact a lot of people would buy them because this is the time to buy shares when they are low. this is when you will make a profit on shares in a couple of years time.

Beau.Gus
For every share sold, there is a share purchased by somebody (sometimes a "market maker"), shares simply cannot be sold if there isn't a buyer.

And any smart investor will GLADLY buy "sinking shares" of a sound company, if there is no reason other than market sentiment pushing the price down. If GE shares were a "good buy" at $22/share in October, they are an even better buy today at $16/share...
