There is no real answer to this question because different people define success differently. If you are talking just regular long term investors who are investing in their company's plan that invests in stocks, then many of them would consider themselves successful. If you are talking about the riskiest day traders, then the majority of them are not.

Don't worry about other people. Take the time to educate yourself and you will invest sucessfully. If you have the proper knowledge it's a very easy thing to do. There are lots of good books and magazines on the subject. Steer clear of anyone who promises great wealth quickly. It doesn't work that way. Learn how it does work and you will be a lot better off than most. I am.

I've heard about 10% are. The main reason is lack of knowledge and lack of discipline.

People often get their knowlege from other people who don't know how to invest and believe things like "buy low, sell high" or "invest for the long term". They buy on tips, but don't know when to sell.

Many also get caught up with emotion and then make irrational decisions. Those are just a few roadblocks to success.

However, if you have a plan, the discipline, and money management, you can be successful. It just takes effort and knowledge and self control!

In a bull market about 80%. In a bear market about 10%. Right now we are in a bull market and almost everyone is making money.
