Master Tong | Who thinks the Stock Market is overinflated? |
The market has been going up rapidly since the last correction earlier this year around March. I think there will be a big correction coming soon and that the market is overinflated.
What do you think? |

Many people are saying this but I question if the correction will be as big as the last on in 1999-2000. Its more of a global economy now plus unlike last time U.S. economy has given a reason for the market to climb. I think theres another 1000 pts to go before anything dramatic happens. Thats just my opinion. |

Everything I've read indicates the stock market is either fairly valued or at worst moderately overvalued. I haven't seen anyone claim that it is a screaming bargain right now, nor that is as grossly overvalued as it was at the height of the tech bubble.
Stock market corrections are part of the game. No one knows when they're coming, just that one is inevitable. You're right though. We've had a nice little run, so maybe the next correction is coming soon. It would probably be prudent to take a little profit right now, but I personally don't see anything dire enough on the horizon to cause me to sell all of the stocks I own. |

With the yield on the 10-year bond creeping up at 4.9 and approaching 5 percent, and the market indexes going up at the same time, I think the market is due for a correction. But, I think it also means the dollar may have bottomed. |

Morningstar has a market valuation graph which attempts to value the entire market based on their valuation of individual stocks. According to the recent graph, the entire stock market is 6% overvalued (0% would be fair value). To put that into perspective, during the bear market of 2002 the market was undervalued by about 10% to 20%, and in January 2005 it was overvalued by about 11%. |

Yes. Whilst interest rates are relatively low there is no other place for Average Joe to put his money to earn real value. |

Sure it is overinflated, we are reaching new highs weekly.
The one sure way is to try and find 'value' stocks, they are few and far between.
On the other side of the coin, this is an international economy and while the US is down other countries are still growing and demanding goods.
It might be a sharp correction, but it should be short lived. When something goes down there is something else going up. The best way to make money is to have your eggs spread out all over the world and avoiding all the spectacular speculative stocks. |

When it comes to the stock market, there are two things to keep in mind...
1.) Measure it's rate of growth or decline in gold, not US dollars. It's really not doing as well as it looks like it is.
2.) Playing the stock market is just like going to a casino. Even if you have a strategy or have done some research, you're still guessing on how well a stock will do. It's pretty much gambling... and the corporations that create the stocks are the house! |
