From the other posts, you know that the US has had a trade embargo with Cuba since the early 1960s. So -- it isn't just Cuban Cigars that can't be bought -- but Cuban products of any kind.
Pre-Castro Cuban cigars are still legal. The day before he announced the embargo, Kennedy sent his press secretary on a mission. He told him to buy up as many Cuban cigars as possible. Below is a link to an article about it. Pierre Salinger bought 1200 Cuban Cigars for Kennedy that night. |
