Because people are finally realizing that Bush and friends have stolen all the money from the US treasury and the nation is broke and falling apart.

If one has been following my posts for the last 2 years or last month or even yesterday, they would know.

I have been saying over and over again for that last 2 years about these market, finance, and economic issues.

It is a HUGE red flag to see Citibank down 20% a day, and BAC down 20% on top of being down over 20% this month.

To view those posts, just add me.

fear and Americans shift from spending to savings.

hello
Everyone is selling their stock because they are losing money, making other people's stocks go down as well. Unless they need the money in the very near future, it would be best to keep the stock so it can recover, the price will likely go back up over time.

Another reason could be that certain businesses aren't performing well during these tough economic times and people don't want to waste their money investing in them, making the prices drop. You don't want to invest in a company that is going to lose your investment money, you want to invest in a company that will do well and make money so you will make money.

A very good possiblity is that from the drop in America's economy many people are totally freaking out and selling all their stocks as fast as they can. I would suggest keeping your stocks if you are willing to wait a couple of years for them to come back up.

We are currently at the beginning stages of an economic meltdown now. Companies are going bankrupt and people are losing their jobs. In recessionary times like these, companies tend to lose money and, hence, their stock values go down, as well.

Well, because this is January so all of the information about the retail store sales have been issued for December and the fourth quarter of '08 and it has all been bad. It's been down month-over-month and it's been down this year as compared to last year. And bad company news drives the stock prices down.
