Why are so many eBay sellers selling Iraqi Dinars, Is there really a chance they will rise again?
Is there a real chance that the Iraqi dinar will rise to its pre war value (about $3 I think)
Additional Details
Is there a real chance that the Iraqi dinar will rise to its pre war value (about $3 I think)

PS I am speaking of the new Dinar introduced by the post war government.

the old iraqi dinars are worthless in value (to a bank) but it's just a historical thing, collectors want them (dont know why theres billions of the things)

Monte D
I can't think of a more risky investment than buying post war Iraqi Dinar. It will get worse in Iraq long before it gets better and an economic collapse in very possible. You would have better odds at the roulette wheel in Las Vegas.

If there was then they would not be selling them on eBay, they would be holding on to them ready to make their fortune. Often when a currency becomes unstable it is also locked to prevent people making money in this way and it is therefor impossible to change it. New notes are issued and the old ones become invalid. Not a good investment!

Collector's Value. Since the decline of S. Hussein's regime, people have considered them good collectibles, especially dinars with high denominations. Here's an article to get you started:

I don't know why they are selling them - I guess as momentos. I think they have no chance at becoming valuable.

people just want them for collectibles or souvenirs

See Kiplingers Personal Finance Magazine, March 2007 issue, I don't have the page number but a reader writes a question to one of the columnist about Dinars. The last paragraph ...the currency isn't freely traded. US banks won't take them. Dealers who sell them won't buy them back. The only way to get rid of them is to sell them on eBay. If all these sellers thought the value will rise, don't you think they would hold them until it does, and not try to sell them now?
