Rivki P | Why are stocks worth anything? Why do stocks have any value? |
If the only reason we buy stocks is to sell them to someone else, and the only reason they buy it from us is to sell to a different person, then it's all just one big game/scam.
For example, by oil, people may trade it around, but in the end, someone does want the oil to use (i.e. for their car, lawn mower etc..).
But ultimately, nobody ever needs a stock! It's not edible, it can't be used as too good of a fuel (the paper issue), in other words it worthless!
So why do millions of people play this huge trillion dollar game! |

You are buying part of a company. You can then sell that bit of ownership to someone else. If the value of the company increases so does the value of the stock and that is how people make money. Without investors initially buying into the company and receiving stock, we wouldn't have the services and good that we do need. So, stocks are an essential part of our economy and it is not just a game. |

If you had any CLUE as to what a STOCK IS, I would take more time to answer your question. Stock holders are the OWNERS of virtually every single household name company there is!!!!
STOCKS are OWNERSHIP of a CORPORATION

Owning stock is the same as owning a piece of a company. Although they originally used to be just pieces of paper, now they're for the most part electronically traded. Owning X amount of shares of a company lets you know how much of that company you own. If a company posts successful results, the value of said company goes up, making your shares worth more money. Hope that helped. |

Before you conclude that stocks have no value, ask Warren Buffett. Stocks are ownership shares in companies. |

I am not a real genius on this but a stock certificate means you actually own part of the company!! |

Stock is a share in a company. You seem to be talking about commodities which are sort of similar. Obviously the reason people buy them is to make money... why else would they? You buy a stock when you see a company you like at a price you like. Good companies that make money will grow and become more valuable over time making it worth more when you sell it down the road. |

You own part of the company... You can get a dividend... You can make money from owning them... if they were free that's like getting free money AND the company needs funding (depending on the size of it) You can sell them yeah but that's for a profit so if they could be free they'd be given a value after they're sold a second time! innit! |

dollars are essentially worthless too, you can't eat it, you can't run your car with it, you can't build a house with it, I mean you can do those things with the stuff that you can GET with dollars but not with the physical dollars themselves,......but people tell us it's worth something so we take it anyways!
it's the same as stock, we're told it is worth something so we buy it and it really becomes worth something!! =) |
