The Fed cut the rate to an all-time low.

Any time the fed cuts interest rates, it has an effect on the stock market. Why?

Because, it lessens the finance charge for companies that are looking to borrow cash from other banks, or the feds.

So in theory. It has an impact on "perceived", future business of public traded companies.

However, this does not mean that Mortgage Rates have taken a reduction similar to what the fed cut. Yes, it could in turn have an effect on mortgage rates. But the Federal Interest Rate is used to mainly by corporations. The Mortgage Rates are influenced by either T-Bills or T-Bonds, I forget sometimes.

Just my two cents.

The Fed cut interest rates.

Catholic Fred
Because the Fed indicated that it's willing to take drastic action to resusitate the economy, even cutting interest rates to levels rarely seen.
