It seems to me that supermarkets carry a great deal of brands of salsa. Wouldn't it make more sense to carry fewer brands that turnover faster to reduce inventory/carrying costs? |

They carry what the customers want. Given that there are hundreds of bar-b-que sauces, mustards, ketchups, steak sauces, marinades, mayonnaises and salad dressings - having four or five or even ten brands of salsa isn't an overwhelming percentage.
I use salsa more than ANY of the other condiments combined. Perhaps many others do as well. |

It's all about a variety of choices. Consumers want choices. They also want their favorite brand. If I were to go into a supermarket and couldn't find Pace I probably wouldn't go back again. The same applies for any other product I have a preferred brand for. |

its b/c of demand. I won't go to a if they only carry the same generic brands of everything. There is a big difference between tostioes salsa and real salsa. |

It is called completion and it is the market world and sometimes yes, it makes more sense to carry fewer brands for a better turnover but the market world is trying to sell their brands out in the markets. |

there are so many kinds of salsa that one doesn't even know what to do... too many small people with big recipes that try to make their authentic style... the more there are, the less they're noticed. it is too crazy, then people just stick to the commercial national brands that aren't that good anyway. just go buy some peppers, tomatoes, onions and salt, there, anyone with a blender can make however much they want and it is better anyway. like 2 seconds in a blender.... and if you try something you have never tried before, you might not even like it. many are not even going to try something they've never tried. it may work a little bit if they have some samples.... all other condiments are more similar... most mustards are the same, most whatever other condiments don't variate so much as in salsas.... it is a monstrosity!!! those dam grocery stores!!! |

Chris, your question is far too sensible; therefore, supermarkets will not consider it. And think about how many they're NOT carrying, due to lack of space!
But I'm with you! Chill on the 40K brands/types/styles of salsa! However, it's a hot product in the USA these days, and I guess you'll never know which ones are the most popular ones unless you give lots of them a chance.
And hey, how about the cereal aisle???? |
