lahiphop3 | Why do we find so few black ceo's? |
|

I haven't seen the statistics so don't know if they are under represented. If they are it could be from fewer having business degrees 30-40 years ago. Many CEOs are older and worked up in an old boys network that was male and white for the most part. Fathers getting friends to give their boys a chance and mentor them and school letting alumni kids in before equally qualified kids. Then affirmative action so if a young minority applied for a job even with a degree from a good school you might think he wasn't equally qualified.
Of course it takes something special to raise to the top even with connections and education. You need to be good with managing people and a good negotiator so many of us couldn't do it with even all the breaks. |

Why are there so many blacks at the top in boxing and at the bottom in school exams?
Why is it the opposite case with the Asians? |

There is no affirmative action in being a CEO. You have to be pretty clever and have a lot of friends to get that job |

I'm not sure what percentage of the population is made up by blacks. I would guess that you will find the percentage of black CEOs is near that level, but probably a bit lower do to lack of opportunities, typically lower education, etc.
I know in the car industry, you used to see tons of black dealers. Ford had a dealer development plan that made it very easy for minorities to become dealers. They slowly buy a portion of the business until it is all theirs.
I believe there are many minority programs out there for entrepreneurs. I don;t know why more don't take advantage of them. |

Why do you ask such a charged question without any supporting facts or figures. What constitues a CEO? I am a CEO of a very small privately held company do I count? Do you only mean publically traded companies? I bet you don't know what you mean other than to fan your hatred and a few other people hatred this afternoon.
Why don't you get off your butt and go out and work your tail off like 99% of the people that achieved that title both Black and White. You think something needs to change, go out and give the board of directors for the company you work for something to think about cause I bet they are interested in 1 color....GREEN!!! Oh and if for some reason they have their heads up their butts like you and only care about a persons skin color, I bet you will find their competitors across the street don't so you go work for them instead! |

I think CEO representation is probably correlated with our population size. A lot of the music and entertainment industries tend to be led by blacks. Time Warner, BET, Def Jam etc. And as mentioned earlier Detroit has alot of blacks in high positions in the auto industry.
A bigger question is why are women so underrepresented thier over 50% of the population but makeup under 5% of the CEO's.. |

I hate to say it but African Americans are generally not given the same oportunities for career advancement as Caucasians. We REALLY have to go over and beyond to prove ourselves, particularly when there's competetion as there is in most main-stream American Fortune [###] companies. Plain and simple, minorities have always had to put up a greater fight in corporate America, ie. women in the workplace. We have a better chance of becoming CEOs when it comes to African American owned, operated, and managed companies. |

Because discrimination is alive and well in the corporate world. It's difficult for minorities of any kind to break into the good ol' boy network. |
