It seems to me that supermarkets carry a great deal of brands of salsa. Wouldn't it make more sense to carry fewer brands that turnover faster to reduce inventory/carrying costs?...
In other words, why does the stock market close at certain times during the day/night? Why doesn't it just run 24/7? I have some theories but lets hear what Yahoo Answers can provide.
The markets are driven ALMOST as much by emotion as they are logical, rational, and reasonable analysis of market forces. I believe that it is vitally important to have a cooling off period every weekday. That time between the close on one day and the open the next (or the following Monday) is a time to reflect, a time for intraspection, a time to ask: Was it REALLY that bad yesterday? Did I overreact? Etc.
We've seen wild swings in recent weeks, including a two-day plunge of more than 500 points and around 1,000 points since July 19th. When the markets are soaring or free falling, the close stops the bleeding or the irrational exuberance for a time. It says, "Calm down. Take a breath."

do u mean to say that you work 24/7. if u work in an office ( not taking into account essential services like pwer, water rail, airlines ) is your office open 24 hours. why should u expect the exchange to open 24 hours

They do allow trading after hours. It's called after hours trading. The stock market is closed but you can still trade many stocks after hours. Research online brokers for details. It's a little different ball game though. You do not have the volume after hours and you cant be on top of events that may be taking place over night. Most people dont trade after hours. There's plenty of time during the day for trading.

Actually, I think they have been considering that possibility.

becuase a lot of the trading they do is based off of information they get from the companies that are being traded and since most companies close at regular business hours and on weekend this information would not be available
Thus making the trades anyone made during these times basically blind trades or at least semi blind trades
