The MAIN reason the dollar is decreasing (and this isn't much discussed on the news) is the Fed's fiscal policy is currently increasing the money supply at a rate around 12-15%!! |

The dollar is decreasing in value because...
a dollar is only a piece of paper that means "l will exchange this paper for something real."
This is true whether it is you who are exchanging, or the government (which allows printing of money) who exchanges. Same thing.
What do you do with dollars, you buy stuff from whoever has what you want, at whatever price they choose to set- You can decide whether to buy or not but it is the seller who sets the price.
So the seller says, "I can sell for US dollars, or l can sell for European euros, or l can sell for Chinese yens. My choice.
If l sell for yens, l can buy a lot of stuff made in China, so that's a good choice.
If l sell for euros that's a good choice too because they have a lot of stuff to sell.
But the dollar, US doesn't have so much to sell, so what do l do with dollars?
If you live in US you can use the dollars here, no problem.
But when we buy things from other countries, those sellers don't have much use for our dollars because there is nothing for them to get from us. So they have to exchange our money for euros or yens in order to get what they want with the dollars we gave them when they sold to us...
But no one wants to exchange for the same reason, that they have no use for our money either.
However, they will take it if they can get a good deal, like more dollars for yens or euros than one-to-one, which is why the value of the dollar is decreasing in the international money exchange market.
At home, we have to pay more for what we want because what we buy comes from other countries that are charging more to sell to us. |

Money is both a store of value and a means of exchange.
Dollars are becoming less useful as a means of exchange because the US manufacturing sector is half of what it was 15 years ago. We don't make much in this country that the rest of the world wants to buy. (I know there are some exceptions, but they are getting fewer and fewer).
Dollars are becoming less useful as a store of value. Bush trying to maintain a war in Iraq increasing government expenditures at the same time as he's trying to buy popularity by cutting taxes is causing massive deficits, which are highly inflationary. Combine that with recent drops in interest rates, also highly inflationary, and holding your savings in dollars is a losing proposition.
So what is the point in holding dollars. I'm selling mine and putting at least some of my savings in euros. |

High Prices and the way money is being spent. It really is bad, not only for us but the world. To many people have companys here and trying earn here. So if we fall, many other economys will fall with us.

Because Berneke is lowering interest rates... Other countries down want our low interest rates.. so it drives the dollar down.. very simple.. Interest rates are higher in other countries...if you were a foreign investor would you like a high return or a low return on your funds....
When the dollar goes down then it takes more of our money..(approximately l.00 US to equal a 1.55 Euro value.. so there fore when we pay for a dollars worth of overseas oil... we actually pay them1.50...if they want the dollar to go back up... all they have to do is raise our interest rates here... They screwed up when they started lowering it.. The housing problem had very little to do with interest rates.... They were loaning money to people who couldn't afford the payments and had bad credit.. It was credit problems ...not interest problems.. Mr Ben really screwed up big time I think..His actions have lots to do with the current oil price.. or any thing else we purchase from overseas..Know you didnt ask for all this but i got started...sorry |
