Why is it so hard to get from 500K to a million?

I have hit this 500K Level several times in my portfolio and then the markets sell off...I just cant seem to get to the next level?

I do have to add though....I was at 540K in mar of 2000 and it went all the way back to 190K by 2003 and now it is back to 500K ....but I have bought a home (put 100K into that and keep adding money and investing) so, will I ever get to a million and beyond? I make around 100k a year now.

This is not about the market, the properties or anything else but this:

Do you BELIEVE you can get to a million?.
Can you see it?

Cause if you DON'T believe it and I don't care what challenges, what market says, what someone else says, what 1. EXPERTS say, - if you DON'T BELIEVE it so, it will NEVER happen.

Now, if you BELIEVE it 100% then you will do the following:

1. Stop talking the wrong way. Self talk is something that you NEED to learn now. You attract what you think, so stop talking as if it hasn't happen or have any, yes, ANY doubt it will happen.

The believe must be so solid, so CRYSTAL clear in your MIND and paper, that you can feel the goosebumps hitting your body.

2. Now, when that Belief is there, you will:

A) see where you are at now.

B) Study what it is that's holding back and what challenges you need to overcome.

C) Write down the solutions and the PLAN. Concrete Plan that goes from your level right now, to level of A MILLION.

D) then you are going to invest in finding a Mentor, in your field who is breaking BEYOND million not making a million but who is making MILLIONS in the market, business, industry you are in.

It is not skill you need now, it is called another Level of Thinking! A Multi-Millionnaire thinking. A mentor who will guide you and it maybe you will need to prove you are worthy of their time. Then do so because this is the way. Mentorship is your key now because who ELSE CAN teach you to go for the million but someone who has done it already it.

Don say, "Oh, millionnaires won't help me." Mate, that's broke people mentality. Speak, walk like a millionnaire and you will become one. Speak who you are and get your mind to believe this by speaking it often everyday.

Check out how millionnaires speak and anyone who is successful and you know what I mean.

Now, I ask again, go right back from begining and look in the mirror and ask yourself this:

CAN I EVER GO BEYOND A MILLION?

If the answer is Yes, then Nothing can stop you. Nothing!

And if you DON'T BELIEVE? Then now is the time to read more, to associate with those who have belief and get that magic in you.

It isn't!

I suspect you keep with messing with stuff, and that's why you are having "difficulties"....if you have $500,000 in a broad array of investments that is returning a measly 8%, it will turn into a million in less than 9 years ON ITS OWN!

If you have it in an S&P or Dow tracking fund, returning more like 10-12%, $500K becomes a million in about 6.5 years...

QUIT MESSING WITH IT!

In all seriousness though, it sounds like you've had some bad luck, and also had a lot of your money diverted into your house. Just keep on plugging and the market should make it up there eventually.

Get some of your money into " international" or " global" mutual funds...I have had GREAT performance ( returns) with EUROX, FEMKX, FLATX
Give " energy" a shot... do you see the world using less?...ICENX
If you have a tendency to be " Green"...there are a few ETF's concentrating on alternative energy...PUW, PBW, GEX
With a little more aggression/ risk you can " double" in three to five years.
In a friend's 401...we've gone from 573 to 888 in 30 months... actually before this last dip we were at 910...( gettin' there but not quite!!)

keep working, keep investing, it will happen. Unless your already 80, time is on your side. 500 should become 1M in around 10 years.

I highly disagree, I think it's MUCH easier to get from $500K to $1M, the question is, "ARE YOU WILLING TO?"

"Is it worth it?" If you're not satisfied with $500K now, how are you going to be when you hit $1m? If you don't set your goals, you'll never get anywhere.
