Generally when a Democrat takes office, it usually has an adverse impact on the speculation temporarily on the market. This is because of the tax philosophies of Demo crates. They generally promote tax increases and most market makers are weary of that. I will only be a temporary speculation and everything will get back to normal.

I think most people who support both the Democrats and trade the market were more focused on Barack Obama's inauguration and his impressive Speech today.
On a brighter note the FTSE 100 at least opened well. In the first hour it had moved from 4100 to 4175 before retreating and I haven't seen the Dow fall bellow 8000 either. On last Thursday's US session the Dow tested 8000 twice and managed to rebound.
I highly respect people who thought the market would rally today because they chose to support 'optimism' for 2009 and I'm still confident things will improve.
