Why is the stock market falling?
The bail out got approved, so why is the stock market falling anyways? Shouldn't it go up instead?

The idea behind the bail out is to decrease consumer uncertainty. If you are uncertain the market will do well, the likelihood of you investing is slim. Well the bailout package didn't decrease consumer uncertainty enough to stop the stock market from crashing so much. Eventually, it will level out at a lower level, and then start to slowly increase. Once it hits rock bottom, and isn't losing points people will begin to invest once again and the market will begin to grow. In the meantime big publicly traded corporations will scramble for funds, cut jobs, etc. So the whole economy is in turmoil right now. The root cause? The sub-prime housing market crisis. That is what caused all the big name banks to fail. And that is why Wall St. is feeling the effects now. So yes eventually the stock market will perk back up. It is very unpredictable when and how much however.

nobody ever claimed that the "bail out" package would be a panacea.

the market is still going to have to take it's lumps, but they won't be nearly as bad as they would have been.

also, now people are just starting to find out exactly what prices the government is willing to pay for those non-performing assets: if it's not as much as people had anticipated, then the market will have to correct a bit more.

the bailout just gave more of our money away instead of addressing the problems individually. just throwing a bunch of money at something not gonna help It should be called the bandaid plan or the take money from a lot of people and give it to a few oww even better the reverse robinhood plan

Equity markets are the leading indicator. They will move down first and move up before all the debt is deleveraged. People are getting scared and all the bad news is coming out at once. When it rains it pours. Were getting the chance to get everything out on the table. You will seem more turbulent times ahead and GREAT buying oppertunities. People have to regain confidence that capitalism will survive which I think it will. You also have the issue of hedge funds having to met cash demand requirements. They are selling stock which they may not want to at this time. Lot of sell orders not very many buys. When the buyers come back it rallies ahrd and fast. Those not in the game will get burnt again.
