Why most of the stock brokers are men?

There are a couple of things here. Angel Baby again has a solid response!! Always good insight... love it.

1. Numbers. Still more men in the workplace than women. Almost any profession that grosses someone more than $100,000 a year just has more men than women.

2. Clientele. it's a proven fact that MEN and WOMEN prefer to buy from MEN. Each survey has it's own agenda as to the reasoning why people poll this way, but it's a fact.

3. Legality: Women have only been considered equals BY LAW since World War II. Men have had thousands and thousands of years to build on tradition and establish themselves as the dominent figures in the world. Women have really only had 4 generations to break the mold. Just as most men follow the steps of their fathers, so do daughters follow their mothers. My mother was a housewife while we were growing up, but was the first in her lineage to encourage my sisters to finish school and become career women.

4. Biology ... a difficult argument... but it's the one that most people like to point to. I'm sure there is something to be said for the fact that in general men are programmed to be hunters and women are gatherers. I would argue that in the next 100 years this argument will lose most of its ground. Gatherers or caretakers are not successful in roles required to intrude or impose. I throw this point in because it holds some relevance, but the other 3 points hold 95% of my argument.

Women... if you want to be a stock broker, here are some things you might want to consider.

1. Consumers find you to be less rational and therefore less trustworthy with money and investments.

2. Consumers also find you to be more of a push over. Use this to your advantage by allowing your buyers to talk their way into thinking they made all the decisions.

3. In order to be recognized or promoted, you'll have to outperform everyone in your office consistantly. Very few women in the world of sales are moderately successful. You are either a winner or a loser. Unfortunately in an office full of men, if you aren't winning, they'll make you feel like a loser very quickly.

4. You can't be 'one of the boys' nor can you be a typical chatty kathy in the office. You are a professional woman out to make a paycheck. You will have few friends and little respect because in general you will intimidate most men.

Have hope and don't give up. You are paving the path of women.

whitty answer: because men ike to work and women tend to spend. also women will seduce men and the the women will be the new broker and the men will eventually be broken, or worse broke.

serious answer: there are women broker. you just dont see them anywhere. they need to use a megaphone to be heard and a pedestal to be seen

As a female I would say because it is a suit and tie type of job that doesn't even appeal to me slightly.

I disagree with the competitiveness answer.

I am the only woman in my commercial finance office (traditionally a man's job). "Numbers and things" and it is competitive amongst ourselves and with other companies.

I think that many woman may think they cannot compete with men by upbringing, however I know that if they had a desire to, any woman could be better than men at it.

Women are more intuitive and more compassion.

Men tend to just do things for the money.

A woman who was in it to "help" or "serve" her clients would do better!

They are just naturally more competitive.

Because women waste most of their time trying to look good

I think stock market is kind of boring to women, 'cause it is full of numbers, figures... Moreover, it requires a lot of time, and women usually have to spend their time on many other things than men (caring for family, shopping), which means they cannot spend much time on watching every change of the numbers, which is the requirement for stock brokers. Actually, I think the main problem is, men won't find attraction to women who are stock brokers! If women are stock brokers, I think what they care will be only numbers and numbers, then there is no place for their family or even themselves.
