In bank fixed deposits you will get max 12% per year returns. (In India). In stock market you may get more than 100% within two to three months. But it all depends on market, you may loose all your money as well.

To beat the inflation!

Inorder to earn some profit and make money.

Anyways the banks aren't giving much interest on the deposits, so intelligent investment in stocks helps.

Shares is one of the instrument for investing your hard earned money. Some of the other instruments are
1. Bank deposits
2. Land/ houses
3. Mutual Funds(related to shares).

The interest earned in bank deposits is very low but is highly safe compared to the shares. If you dont give importance to increasing the value of your money, this is a good instrument.

Land/houses is a very good instrument for investing. But you can utilize them only if you have a very large amount of money. It too involves some risks.

Shares are risky but the returns are enormous. You can become a millionare or a pauper overnight. If you want to have some amount of security, you may go for Mutual funds

Our interest to earn money. But in most of the times we land in losses. The companies some times gain and some times looses. We will not be able to track properly.
