Mark P | Will Bill Gates lesser role in Microsoft's day to day operations hurt the company? |

No. It's a solid company and he has laid the groundwork to help it remain successful. As long as he's still alive it will continue to be a strong company. Though increased competition could weaken them over time, I would chalk that up to more of a natural progression than anything. |

no, there are far more competent people for the job than bill gates, it's all about hiring the right person for the job. |

No. Bill Gates is already out of touch with day-to-day operations, and acts more as a visionary and figurehead. He can still perform those roles without being involved day-to-day. For example of how he's out of touch, look at his announcements about Halo 3 for the Xbox 360. Before Bungie (the game studio making the game; Bungie is owned by Microsoft) even confirmed they were working on Halo 3, Bill Gates came out and said that Halo 3 would be release on the same day as the Play Station 3. That's not even correct...PS3 is scheduled for release in late 2006, Halo 3 some time in 2007. Gaffes like that indicate that Microsoft will be fine without Bill Gates' day-to-day involvement. |

No. In my opinion, Bill Gates hindered the company's potential. Yes, that might seem like an unreasonable answer but Bill Gates turned Microsoft into a virtual monopoly. That made Microsoft complacent and hindered new development in the technology of software. Diversification breeds competition which breeds a plethora of ideas and development. |

I will think so. He plays a very role today in influencing where the company is operating and heading even though he has a so-callled CEO acting on his behalf. His staff is not trained to run the business by themselves. |

Probably not, he's a nerd, nerds aren't great leaders. Microsoft needs to go in different places, Gates is smart enough to know that he isn't the best man for the job. Besides, it's not like he needs the money. |
