13 million people will lose their jobs within a years time, not 3 million. Are people forgetting that these companies pay tons of taxes(156 billion will be lost), employ millions of AMERICANS and are the biggest consumers of steel, plastics and other materials.

and 13 million people all looking for jobs at the same time!!!!
come on people, wake up. And to all those who are in denial and really think your job is safe cause your not in this industry...you better think again. Be on your best behavior at work. The employment pool will be so big, im sure there is someone that can replace your job in 2 seconds..someone way more qualified. |

Most of the airlines have been through chapter 11 and millions of people didn't lose their jobs. The 3 million job loss is just crying wolf. If GM goes into chapter 11, there's a much better chance that the automakers can get a reasonable contract, and not have to live the outrageous one they've had for decades. Who else do you know can get full retirement after 30 years?
The 3 million may end up getting salaries that are more in line with what they should have been paid all these years. |

This won't happen cause neither Republican or Denocrat were born yesterday. They have had monthly losses of $15-23 billion a month since 2006, and their operation is bottomless pit. Their stock would rise for half a trading session from uninformed investors, but it would follow a sharp sale off of around 20%.
A chapter 11 would fix GM, but it would cause new ownership from a chang in stock that the executives are scared of with good reason. The excutives use 18%-27% of the budget on perks like spa treatments, private jets, and company vaction homes to name a few that will cause a new owner to start to restructure them aka fire them. |

Personally, I think GM should temporarily go out of Business for a short amount of time, but then come back in full force without any of these damn union workers. If they get the bailout, it will most likely do what AIG did. Or, we could be seeing Ford/GM/Chrysler in one stock. |

100% guaranteed that gm, ford, and Daimler Chrysler will go under. The government is positive it will not bail out the 3 giants. Stock prices will be affected for the worse, but our country has come down to this. Possibly Gm will sell of some brands, BMW as exhaled interest in purchasing Cadillac. But by midway 2009 GM, Ford, and Daimler Chrysler have filed for bankruptcy. I'm pissed i just bought a 2008 Chevy Tahoe Z71, if they go under, i trading in mt tahoe for the new Pilot. Yes my Tahoe only has 1500 miles on it. |
