Will gold prices ever go down again?

Gold has a corresponding value to oil and a continuing devaluing dollar. As interest rate go downward helps push gold higher. Which is better to hold in your hand gold or some paper with a shrinking value? Will gold go down? There will be some fluctuations, but the trend is upward.

Warren
Yes.

Sam
well....the charts are rather weak now and we may expect a decline in the yellow metal down to $860 odd levels....

i had to add this again....coz....of so many answers with crude oil in it...the link between crude oil and gold is broken long time back and they both are not folloeing each other strictly....
to track gold....track the euro as the any upmove in euro means an upmove in gold - or the same...track dollar.....dollar rises and gold falls....

i hope that was clear enough...

farfel
in nominal dollars probably never again, but relative to what else a certain number of dollars will buy at a future time, it is likely to do so.

gold is in a bull market right now, and even that bull market will end someday.

The Ghost
They probably will go down slightly and just meander around the point they are right now for a while. It's one of those potential investments that i would steer clear from because long term solid growth is highly unlikely, and it'll probably flatline for a while do to the explosive growth it's had in recent years. If you're looking for stability and good growth, try a mutual fund that gives you six seven percent. The good thing about getting a fund that's medium risk for instance is that you shoot for 8 percent about, and if it happens it's great. If it doesn't, the downside is usually that of a conservative stock. Makes sense to have the upside without much of the downside.

ALL investments are cyclical. It goes up & it will go down & go up & etc, etc.
The problem is no one knows when it's hit the top or bottom.
Just like roulette wheel every number on the board will be hit. No one knows when...

You bet. Surely there will be a large retracement in the price at some point.

rickg155
sure, but it could be a while

if the federal reserve continues to keep interest rates low, and/or inflation continues to rise, gold will stay up

laxman
gold prices largely depend on the price of crude oil worldwide as fuel prices are a major factor in deciding the economy.

as we can see fuel prices are increasing day by day and the govt. has to shell out more gold to increase the capital flow in market, so the gold prices will not come down steeply.
