nygiantsfan | Would $5 Million be enough to leave for your kids and future generations? |
Let's say someone left their child $5 Million in a will..would that be enough for them to live off of?...and would they be able to grow it for their kids, grandkids, and descendants? |

The math can be relatively simple to conceptualize this. 2% of $5M is $100,000. Can you live off of that much per year? Even in todays low guaranteed interest rates you can earn 4% per year. In this scenario you will have a very reasonable lifestyle and still be $100,000 ahead at the end of the first year and growing larger every year going forward.
The best money you will ever invest will be to find a good financial planner and an estate attorney. With this type of money I would even suggest a financial planner with CFP designation. Interview 2 or 3. |

Maybe for the next generation, and if they lived conservatively, or if each generation only had one or two children, But eventually its probably going to be spread out among too many people for all of them to live off of the principal and earnings. Its probably only going to last a few generations. |

Absolutely yes with the proper investment planning....most people/couples live WAY above their means and consume much more than necessary. If the child lived off of 2% of the money (100k) per year with the other 98 % invested that money would last for 3 or more generations CONSERVATIVELY |
