Chef Jesse J | Would investing in siri be a smart move or a bad move? |
the stock is 13 cents a share, it use to be 25 cents, so i thought if it goes to a dime i should buy it. what do you think, good or stupid idea. |

a bad move my friend.
market cap = $445.85m or .$0.12 a share
cash= $365.51m
total debt = $3.37b
total debt / equity = 214.16 (REAL BAD!) 1.0 or below is best
current ratio = 0.31 (REAL BAD!) 2.0 or better
book value = 0.005
this company has way to much debt. It will not last must longer I am afraid. |

You will likely be taking on far more downside risk than any upside potential.
The company is struggling with a litany of problems, and is unlikely to survive.
There are far, far, better choices for investment out there. |

It's a dump move! You shouldn't bought it in the first place. This kind of stock is for the gamblers who hoping to get rich quick. |

The company is on the verge of bankrupcy. It is probably worth 0. |

These really cheap stocks are tempting, it's like a lottery ticket. That's why they are actually overpriced, even though very cheap - people are tempted by the low price. The amount you can lose is actually the same 100% of what is invested. 500$ worth of WMT is a lot less likely to hurt you than 500$ of SIRI |

As a "common sense" rule of thumb, you should avoid any stock trading at under about $5 or $10 a share....they are generally that cheap because they are not worth anything! Not always, but mostly.
SIRI have a flawed business model, there are now many budding "virtual" businesses offering the same range of product on-line....at zero charge...and without a special receiver. Since most new cars now have the capability to play mp3 podcasts, what does anyone actually NEED satellite radio for? Nothing.
They may grow or evolve into a working model, but I wouldn't bet any of my money on it, and there don't seem to be many other people willing to...or it wouldn't be a dime a share! |

Siri will be doing a reverse split. |

If your only reason for choosing the stock is the price per share, it is a bad idea.
If your reason for choosing the stock is that you have learned how to analyze the risks and potential reward associated with the investment, and your analysis has determined a fair price is greater than $0.10 per share, then buying it for $0.10 is a good move.
Note that, as I use the terms, good investments can lose money and bad investments can make money. Indeed, it is possible for a good investment to be one that you expect to lose money. For example, if there is a 60% that SIRI stock will become worthless, a 20% chance that it will go up to over $1.00 and a 20% chance that it will be somewhere in between, buying the stock for $0.10 would be a good move for an investor with a large risk tolerance. |
