I can see both sides of the fence. At one time the Unions were good when companys were not paying thier work force. I used to word for the local 7 chapter of grocery workers and all I saw was ways for people who should have been fired keep thier jobs and causing much more problems.

I'll try to be brief but you question rang my bell. My grandfather was a union organizer and he help organize tne United Mine Workers which was a good thing at the time.

My Dad wouldn't help organize the mine where he worked,as a child, I remember the organizers sitting at our kitchen table discussing how to organize the mine. He would tell them what needed to be done and he would vote to organize but he wouldn't get vocal as he had 2 kids to feed and a wife to support.

He ended up joining the union to keep his job. I am thankful for that because he died at age 51. His death was from Black Lung a form of Cancer caused by breathing coal dust. That entitiled my mother to a pension for the rest of her life.

I have never been a unuon member nor will I ever be. There is too much disparity the large union had to much power and the small ones didn't have enough power.

Look at the problems our country is presently having. The unions have had so much power in the past they have bankrupted the Airlines. All the US car manufactures are on the verge of bankruptcy because of Union Benefits. The Trucking Industry went thru the same thing which is another way to screw the workers and public.

I believe in Unions if they are controlled because working people need protection against being taken advantage of. If the Union is not controlled it takes advantage of the employers, srock holders and everyone who cannot find a Union job.

Your's was a graet question 1

I’ve lived and worked in a “right to work” state where unions have almost no power whatsoever. Employers try to get away with way too much that they would never be able to in another state.

Unions promote an equal voice for the employees in situations where they would be otherwise powerless and easy targets for abuse. Once a person works for a failing industry where the employers underpay and overwork, a Union sounds like a valid solution. It sure did to me when i was working in I.T.

Some fields are naturally high stress fields and employers know this and feed off of this. Turnover is huge and burnout happens frequently. Additional personal days, higher pay (or at least NO pay cuts) and increased medical benefits would greatly help reduce the stress and the turnover rate. Why would an employer do this if they could just hire the next average Joe off the street (which there are many of in the IT world), give him 2 weeks of training and see if he sinks or swims?

I don’t believe any business should make a profit at the expense of its employees. Call me a Socialist, but I’m all for unions!

Against.....unions are out of date and promote mediocrity

I am against they only protect the lazy workers
