Would you give a 5% return for a $1000 investment in your business?
Say I want to invest in a (your) business. You and I sit down to negotiate the terms. If I invest $1000 in your company, would you agree to paying out 5% of your earnings every three months?

the U S government will do better than that. They will give you a 5% return annually even though they have not made any money in I do not know how long. They are sort of a ponzi, I think. They keep borrowing more money to pay off those from whom they previously borrowed money.

tha_first_disciple_dsgb
no because that would probably only cover the profit, you would want to go with a 10% payout about every six months.

+ option to run your own prepaid legal services company wherever you may be at no extra cost to you.

Interested, you may email me at delaramaprepaidlegal@yahoo.com

Yes, it must be for at least 30 months. I own a financial firm and a 5% cost of capital is fine for that time frame.

If I was an idiot, then maybe.

5% is kind of high, if is every 3 months. That's about 20% per year. I'm too lazy to work out the exact DCF, but the business must be almost worthless to get only 1000 for 20% of the profits. I guess it would depend on how badly the business needed money, but there are better ways.

Depends what the $1000 was for. If it would actually help me stay in business I may agree to pay out 5% of my profit for a designated amount of time.

Not enough info. What is the total business investment?

As a rule, there should be a margin for you to profit within the investment/value ratio. If the $1000.00 is the total investment, 5% might be reasonable. If you have $50,000.00 of your own money invested it wouldn't be. A whole lot falls in between and equity (real and sweat) should be considered.

Lastly, negotiate a buyout. If someone is going to own 5% of your business, negotiate a series of buyout dates where you can make a lump sum payment to purchase your share of the business back at the current day value + points. For instance, if the buyout date is 24 months from now and 5% of your business is then worth $20,000.00, arrange it so that you could purchase this portion of your business back for 125% of the original investment value - 0r $25,000.00. (The 25% mark is just an example. Negotiate your own terms) This might not make sense today when you can't imagine that type of success, but you will be grateful for the option in the future.

It depends if the $1000 you are investing is 5% of the business.

That's 20% per annum - go and lend it out on a credit card type loan deal and get the same rate. Or invest in stocks. If any business says their interested then they are tricking you. You need say $50,000 upwards to interest any normal business.
