juangatos | Would you sell a stock that ran up 50% in a short time or hang onto it if you felt it had a bit more in it? |
I'm tempted to sell then wait for it to come down. If it doesn't 50% ain't bad they way I see it. SOLF is a good example. |

I remember a time when the China Eastern Airlines went up around 50% in two days before crashing. Its best to set a goal for a stock. Just sell the stock when it reaches your set target so you don't have to decide. |

SELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if it can go up that much, it can fall that much in an even shorter amount of time than it climbed. |

You can't time the market, it could go down tommorrow or the next day or go higher, you can never be sure. If your in it for the short term, you should probably sell and take your profits now instead of risking losing more later, being greedy will always get you in the end. If you like the stock, you can always buy it back later. |

Any time you make a 50% profit, you've done well. You can gamble that it will go up more, but you risk losing as well. take the money and run, there's a recession on. |

Why do you not sell 75 per cent of your position? That way you have made money no matter what happens.
Then if it pulls back and the fundamentals look good, you might buy a bit back. If in increases a bit cash the rest out. There are other fish in the sea.
A lot of people have gone broke trying to sell at the absolute top and buy at the absolute bottom. |

One of the biggest way people to lose money in the market is by selling winners quickly to lock in profits and holding on to losers way too long waiting for a come back and not wanting to convert their "paper" loss into a real one.
The market is still near its bottom though, as nobody seems to notice, it has be recovering steadily since March 10 (Dow +10%, S&P + 11%, Nasdaq + 16%). Another big reason for market loses is buying at the top when everyone is (over) excited about the market and selling at the bottom when everyone has a gloomy outlook.
I have no information on your particular stock, and I would never recommend holding on to a stock for a little bit more, but if the stocks fundamentals haven't changed you should have a better reason to sell it than it has done well.
Speaking of examples, I sometimes wonder how many people in the 50's and 60's bought Berkshire-Hathaway at around 100 and were thrilled (then) to get out at 150 or 200. |

you haven't made a dime yet until you sell them |

Put a stop loss trade on the stock through your brokerage. If the stock goes down 10% from the current price, then sell it. |

If I were fully invested, I would put in close stop-loss to make sure if it recedes, I get most of that 50% as profit.
If I were not fully invested, I would sell 1/2, and have close stops. |
