Ken S | 4 years ago i had no choice but to borrow money with my gf from her parents, now they want their money back.? |
Do I have to pay them? Additional Details even though she screwed me in the end, by cheating on me and i was forced to leave??? |

Legally, as a previous poster said, it depends if they can prove you agreed to pay it back.
Morally, you do have an obligation. Why did you not begin paying it back a long time ago? |

Well, you BORROWED the money. They didn't GIVE it to you. So yes, you need to pay them back. |

Yes, of course - if you borrowed money, then it should always be paid back. Four years is a very long time for a loan. |
|

Alissa
 |
Yes you do |

I would think that would be a big strain on your girlfriend, and her parents relationship.
You thought it was a gift, didn't you.
I know where your coming from a little bit.
I've lent my kids money in the past and have never expected it back. It just makes it easier for them to ask for it when they say it's a loan.
The bottom line though is, yes you borrowed it and yes you should pay it back.
If it was a large sum, ask if you could make payments, and stick to it. |

Like you said you had no choice and they were nice enough to lend you the money, you do have to pay them.
The story is sad but the fact remains you borrowed it, you owe it, its the decent thing to do. |

If you borrowed money, you should pay it back. Your relationship with your girlfriend is irrelevant. |

WTF does anything about your GF have to do with you paying money that you owe?
You borrowed money you pay it back, period. With interest too.
Lets be clear, while you may be able to "get away with it" you have stolen money from somebody, same as if you went to a bank and removed cash from a drawer.
If you can live with yourself as a thief, that's your business.
Glad I don't know you though.
Same goes for the Divorced Ahole who stiffed his ex in-laws. |

Yes... and you should pay them back with interest ( at least 25%)
If for no other reason, because you may need them in the future.
If you screw them over, you may be out in the cold next time.
You should have already paid this back, that's why the high interest... |

depends, do you plan on being with this girl and her family for a long time? If so, work out a payment plan.
If not, there is no written contract stating the loan contract, therefore it would be really hard to make it stand up. If we are taking about a few hundred dollars it wouldn't even be worth taking to court. |

Was there a written contract or verbal agreement that you would pay them back? If not they cannot get their money back. They have NO proof of any promise to pay. They can take you to small claims court, but they need a good argument why four years later you are expected to pay the money back. They will have to show proof of the loan, proof of the promise to pay, and proof that they have attempted to call or contact you to get their money. Otherwise the judge will laugh in their faces. Tell them to ******. My ex-husbands parents paid off some of our debts when we were married, and now that we are divorced they want it back. People are stupid sometimes, and there is no way they can demand that. |
