should have paid the council tax then.
I was gonna suggest a payment offer would keep them happy - but if you haven't bothered to pay in the last 6 years then they probably realise you're just taking the p1ss |

You need to get in touch with the council or their accounts department and tell them you want to offer another payment plan because the previous one can no longer be kept to. Put it in writing keeping copies of everything. Also book to see citizens advice bureau, there are organisations that help people like you get out of debt. Do t straight away, get it sorted before the bailiffs put you in more debt. |

He can only take goods if you sign a 'walking possession' order.

If its not to late to be told this....DO NOT LET THEM IN
keep everything outside the property secure....sheds locked cars away from house.....do not answer the door....he will try about another 3 or 4 times before returning it back to mags court who will return it back to council......it is at this point that you need to start paying the arrears to the council which will prevent it doing full circle again
If its too late and he has already been in the home he can break in now. if this is the case he will list items of value from your house and ask you to sign the list (a walking possession order). He will go back to court for permission to levy your goods he has listed |

Cuffyn is dead right, get yo your local town hall tomorrow and lay your cards on the table and ask for a ressessment of earnings. In your present situation you may qualify for council tax relief. No good hiding from this it will only get worse, and every time the bailiff turns up at your house the bill goes up.
The very best of luck to you and yours.
Do it tomorrow. |

Tell them to take a hike - you haven't got it, tough poo for them. You should get straight back onto the council tax people and a)make sure you are currently getting anything you are entitled to and b)make an agreement to pay them. We did that and bypassed the baliffs completely. They are sharks feeding on the misery of others. Whatever you do, don't bury your head in the sand. And if possible, get to the Citizens Advice Bureau who can help you resolved this properly. The other problem is that you need to address these issues when they arise but I am sure you know that now! Some people have been known to move sentimental things of value . Some people who are naughty move them to a relative to look after. And they can take very little as you have children and so you must be left with a reasonable home and basics. They have to leave seats, tables, chairs, all the children's things and basically, they can't take your white goods like washing machines or computers if they are the 'children's' computer . Don't panic, and get it sorted asap. You will be fine and survive this. Good luck. Disclaimer - I would never advise anyone to do anything against the law. I am just saying what some people do. |

Don't sign anything
Try to make somekind of payments, direct to the bailiff without him attending the property (he will charge you.for the visit)
Try to contact the court that issued the warrant to get it suspended
Speak to the council, you should be entitled to some council tax benefit - or at least a 25% discount for being a one income house.
If the bailiff refuses to accept a payment try to make it direct to the council.
Start saving a few pounds in community credit union, after a few weeks you may be able to get a small cheap loan to pay towards the preferential (magistrates court) council tax debt. |

Your local council will of given you the statutory 14 days notice of instruction for a baliff to attend your home that is when when you should of addressed this issue.
Each call a baliff makes to yourself you will incur a fee you need to apply to the court to vary the order by a N245 which can be obtained from the court. Also you will need for it to be accompanied by statement of earnings Ex160 there may be a £30 charge but if on low income less than 14k usually free and get a new pay arrangement in place.
Word of warning if you get the stop on the warrant and ordered to pay weekly do not skip it you will be in breach of a court order (contempt of court) can carry a custodial sentence and if for council tax you are still liable on release.
Your also entitled to duty solicitor on the day |
