... everytime you go to spend money ask yourself "do i really need this?" here's a few things that i see other teens at my school really wasting money on everyday.. (and i'm assuming you're a teen if not sorry)
-don't buy bottled water, it's a waste of money, buy one and reuse/refill (helps the environment too..)
-... umm... do you really need that $5 huge starbucks coffee? make your own coffee/drinks at home (similar to the bottled water)
-.. just stay away from the stores unless if it's something that you REALLY need (...like if your clothes as about to fall apart.)
i saved up $250 just to buy my BASS alone, luckily my parents had got a amp for me eariler... ask for money to go towards a guitar when birthdays/holidays come around (where'd that x-mas cash go?)
put your money in the bank. if you don't see it you won't use it. and no credit card!
... pick up loose change. adds up.... also consider getting a job or doing stuff around the house that your parents will give you a bit of money for.
also when you go to purchase a guitar/amp.... PLEASEEEE buy something decent! even if you have to wait another month for the money, it's worth it. i see way too many kids with crappy guitars that they regret buying.
also one last tip: USED. look for a used guitar or at least a used amp that is in good condition and you'll save a ton of money. shop around too don't settle right away, and bargin if you buy at a store.
good luck hope this helped! |

You can only give 10 points, but I will give you an answer anyway. #1, the guitar and amp you are buying is not a very good one for that price. If you are just beginning, I think you would still be better served saving a little longer and buying a better quality guitar. Look into used equiptment at music stores and/or pawn shops. Cheap electric guitars constantly go out of tune and the necks warp easily. Now, how to save the money. Open a savings account and put your extra money in it. If you keep your money around you will spend it, it is easier to open a savings account and not have acccess to the money. Good luck, hope I was helpful and I hope you get your guitar, it is a wonderful instrument. |

a good way to save money is to put it some where you will forget it and your parents will know where it's at and when you get more money give it to them to put with the other money or you could take half of the money each month and use half of it for say a pop or a candy and the other half towards a guitar and amp |

noone helps u i see, but i have a good idea. maybe, it 'll take for a while, but it works.
it needs discipline.
the point is that u start to collect, the biggest coin, u got in your country. in hungary it's 100 HUF its about 50cents . so u start to collect, and put in a box or sg, and u don't pay with them, NEVER! but u put it in tha box. soon or later it will have its results.
u can fast the process, by changing your friends dollars or sg...
i told u , discipline! and don't let ur mother take them!! :) Hide it!
good luck! |

You have to work out how much you need to save each week between now and March, and put it away somewhere. A bank, or give it to someone you really trust to look after it. Simple I know, but at the end of the day, how badly do you want that guitar? |

Put in the bank! in a savings account so you aren't tempted to spend it |

Set a certain amount to save each week and put it under your bed. Whatever extra you have you can spend on anything else. |

If you eat out, learn to cook at home, instead.
rent movies, instead of going to the theater....its much cheaper.
get a job at FedEx.(if you are 18)..the part time pay there would definitely allow you to get that guitar in no time |

Put your money in a bank. Then destroy the card so you wont be tempted to use it. |

Get a 12" piece of 6" PVC pipe, and 2 end caps. Glue them on either end and drill a hole big enough to fit a rolled dollar bill in one end. Put all your spare cash in there. You'd be surprised how it adds up! I put a down payment car that way and it only took me 6 months!
By the way, to get to the cash, you have to saw one of the ends off. |

Put the money in a jar, then put the jar into a tank full of man eating crocodiles. After 3 months, go out and shoot all of them. Then, you will have saved the money without touching it. |

get a lock box to store in your room and put a fixed amount in it every week or pay week until March. If you are that bad and can't resist taking the money you are putting aside, give the money to someone you trust to hold on to. Don't go out to eat as much too. If you can't trust anyone, put the money in the savings portion in a bank account and keep your spending money in your checking account |

Don't eat out. A guy I used to work with would always lament the fact that he couldn't afford a new car (due to the payments). He did have enough to eat lunch out every day though, he spent on average $8 per day on lunch. That's almost $250 per month just on lunch. If he'd have brought lunch (a sandwich or something) he'd been able to afford a modest car payment. Little things add up quick, buy in bulk, don't buy a coke out of the machine every day, bring them, stuff like that saves you tons of money. |

A few tips how to find money & it does add up.
Are you a college or high school student? Look around your school campus and pick up pocket change people drop. You would be suprised what people drop on the ground.
on a weekend walk in the school parking lots. I have found lots of pocket change in parking lots.
Sometimes I walk in business parking lots for pocket change if its not privately blocked off. |

Without the will power to do it manually, the best way to save money is to start an allotment to yourself. Have it automatically deposited in an account from your paycheck, if your employer offers that service. |
|

Michelle
|
Well, I don't know how you will award 20 points, but here is my suggestion.
If you work and get paid direct deposit, set up an allotment and have money automatically put into a savings account. You don't spend what you don't see. Or, if you are living at home still, make an agreement with a parent to give them a set amount of money each time you get paid (and if you get paid twice a month, that would be about $100 a month).
If you are young and at home, learning to save money now will be a very good thing for when you are out on your own so you don't get into financial trouble and debt. Only buy what you can pay cash for - that is the biggest thing you can take away from this. |

Calculate the maximum price you need including taxes. Divide by the number of weeks you have until you want to buy it. That is how much you need to save each week.
Now list your income. Calculate it weekly. List your expenses separately and calcualte weekly. If you don't have the amount you need to save weekly you only have two options.
1) earn more get a 2nd job, do a short term job
2) cut expenses, cut back on those coffees, movies, eating out, anywhere you can
If cutting expenses won't make it, they you have to earn more.
Simple economics.
Saving is easy if you have enough money to save.
Cutting your expenses and being focused on doing that and being willing to earn more money that is difficult but important if you really want this.
You'll know when you do the figures. If you can't afford it without cutting expenses or taking an extra job and you're not willing to make that sacrafice you won't get that guitar and amp and you really don't want it bad enough then. |
|

MrKristenBell
 |
Well the obvious answer would be to not spend any money, but that never helped anyone.
Perhaps spanning your spending money out over a duration of time. If you have a job, then earn whilst spending less.
Maybe? |

Open a savings account. When you do request that they do not give you a debit card or checks. In that way you won't be able to take any money out. Go to the teller each pay day and try putting in a little at a time. 20 here, 40 there, and your money will start to add up. Plus, if you get a savings account make sure you see how high their annual percentage yield is. This is how much EXTRA money that you receive from the bank each year you have a valid savings account open with them. The best banks to try this with are PNC bank, Washington Mutual, and Citibank. |

Put your money in the bank instead of keeping it with you as it will be less tempting to spend faster. Or keep your savings for the guitar and amp seperate to your other money. Good luck, hope this helps. |

open a bank account, a free one, $20 a week starting now and you should have the money by then. its not alot, shouldnt break you if you have a job.dont dip into the account and i see you jamming in march with your new strings. |

I would get a bank account or better yet put some money
in a dresser that you want to save and the money that you
have extra you can put in your pocket. |
