I have a friend (really) who is going bankrupt. Once she has been declared bankrupt her bank account will be frozen, however, she will still be working and would have to have somewhere for her salary to be paid into.
Can anybody tell me how this can be done? She has already contacted all of the main banks and they refuse to allow her to open another account.
Please can somebody help.

I have already offered to have a cheque paid into my account, however, when the cheque is made payable to her (which it appears that the payroll office must do) apparently, you can't endorse a cheque now and pay it into my account. The problem would be made harder because in the near future, her company wants to pay the money directly into the bank.
Thank you anyway at the moment for all your feedback. Please keep your answers coming in because believe me she is having a terrible time and bankruptcy is a last resort. She has been left like this due to a cheating, weak, greedy spineless husband |

Look on the internet for "Basic Bank Accounts."
They are set up for people in this situation. Some have more features than others like chequebooks and debit cards.
My advice is to open a basic bank account before she goes bankrupt.
The lady below mentions pre-paid debit cards as they will allow the payment of salary. This, however is an expensive option as they charge you to withdraw money and top up your card. |

Maybe ur friend should check with the bankruptcy agency on this, maybe they can issue letter which bank will accept and open an account. After all, though declared bankrupt a person still need to work to earn money to survive or if god willing pay off the debts... |

well what i didwas -
nationwide flex account opened after i went bankrupt. you can have wages paid into it, do direct debits, standing orders and online banking. oh and it comes with a cahpoint card. what more do you need from a bank account? |

That's why bankruptcy should be a last resort - too many people think it's an easy way out of their debt problems and use it to avoid paying off their debts. Makes me very angry.
The only thing I can think of is for her to get her office to pay her by cheque and then go to one of those cheque cashing places - though they charge a lot for it.
What's the legal situation? Isn't she supposed to put her salary into the account? |

i don't quite know about that but for now she can go to one of them "cash a cheque shops" they will take a percentage not much, but until she has found a way too put a cheque in. Cant she open an account with the post office, i know you don't have to have a credit rating to open one up there. But I'm really not sure. Best Wishes Ellie.x

You are obviously not in Australia, because this does not happen here. How do they know you are a bankrupt? You are not taking out a loan, you are using your own money. Bankruptcy is a long haul, no credit for 7 years, absolutely nothing not even a mobile phone contract. Think hard about it. |

I just e-mailed by BK attorney and asked him about bank accounts being frozen after a bankruptcy and he said he's never heard of such a thing ever happening. So- is your friend's lawyer a jackass? Or am I missing something? Did she file a Chapter 13 maybe? |

I'm sorry but you can't have a current account for 3 years after you've declared bankruptcy. This means that your friend can only be paid in cash, as cheques, direct debit, etc need a bank account. |
