Most companies are protecting themselves against credit card liability by having the customers swipe the card themselves.
If you suspect charges on your card that aren't yours, you should contact the credit card company as soon as possible.
Some credit card companies are getting so sophisticated that they actually track your spending and if something someone is trying to purchase something on your credit card that is out of your normal track of spening, they'll contact you for your permission to complete the purchase. |

Technically your signature for the card is actually "See I.D." So really they should match your signature on the receipt with
"See I.D."
Besides that, in most places you can swipe a credit card on the counter unit and they never see the card anyway so I think thats why most places just stopped caring.
I think the only companies that did it in the first place were ones that kept getting screwed over by it over and over.
You will find that SEE ID is not actualyl a valid signature anyway check this link to visas website

They do read the signature in the back. You can't expect them to check for ID everytime.
In terms of business, if you just bought a HD TV for $900 dollars and you paid with credit card. The cashier asked you for ID but you left it at home. Well........then the sale is void and you can't pay it. It is non profitable in business
Yes, it isn't safe.........but if someone has your card. You should always report it stolen right away |

If you feel that strongly about it then yes call them out ~ I wouldn't ask for a manager unless it turns into a serious situation such as the employee is becoming irrate because asking for a manager will not change every employee ~ as far as they're liability for not asking there is indeed a potential loss if lets say fraud really does occur because someone was neglient in simply asking for id
Ex A fraudster purchases something ~ you report it to the bank the bank will give you your money back ~ but the bank will try to attempt to get there money back from the company where the fraud occured ~ thus putting the liability back on them and ultimately the employee that didn't verify id.
Also as someone else mentioned as dangerous as it is may seem because of idenity theft becoming the fastest growing crime people simply don't care ~ because most of the time it's a meaningless job!!!
Good Luck ~ I have been there |

Most of the stores check your ID if the transactions are over 500 (or they have their own limit). Otherwise they just ignore.
I have signed as Britney Spears and nobody cared to check that either. The payments get posted right away.
Thank God that now they have some protection program so if you are charged any amount that wasn't your own charge then you can dispute it and you get your money back. |

I work in a retail store part time and sometimes my manager won't even ask for ID..Calling for a manager at a particular store won't change every worker. If you loose your card, just call the company and get it turned off..no big deal! Although cashiers should ask for ID, it is not illegal not to ask. |

Cashiers usually don’t care. They’re so busy and pressed for time. Next time a cashier takes your card without checking for the ID, mention it. Mention that they could be allowing someone to commit fraud, by not checking your ID as is clearly states on the back. That irks the hell out of them. |

I used to work at a retail store for several years. I was told I was the only one that asked for ID when it was on the signature line. I actually asked for it even when there was a signature. But I would mention it to the manager, but don't point out one particular employee maybe it would be something the manager can bring to all the employees attention during a meeting or something. |

Strangely, I still believe in marriage. I have no idea why... but I do. As for the money.... man, it depends. I think whomever is making the money needs to be in control of the money. But all that really means ("control') is that if you want to go out and buy a $1500 couch, give a brother some warning. If you have a debit card, let me know what you are spending. Be ok with the fact that if you wanted the $1500 sofa, that we should talk about it and if I say can you wait a week, be OK with that too since we are not putting it on a damn credit card!!! that what i call a real problem.Dede |

one reason fraud is so easy-someone bought 5000 worth of equipment-if they would have only asked for id |

Not every company asks to see your ID and it's not illegal. |
