Am I getting taken advantage of?
I have been watching a four year old Mon-Fri 7:30am-5:30pm. She only gives me $300 every two weeks, which comes out to $3.00 an hour, $30 a day. I was okay with this but now without really telling me she started bringing her at 5:30am-6:30pm and plans on paying me the same. What are the usual rates for a live out nanny at these hours? Am I out of line asking for more money? And the little four year old isn't the most well behaved child! Advice please. Thank you!!

Yes, you are being taken advantage of, since she is asking you to watch her kids for 3 extra hours with no extra pay. Tell her that you want to be paid for the 3 extra hours, and only charging 3 dollars an hour is too cheap anyway. I don't know how old you are and if you have any personal relations with this woman. Tell her your concerns and your demands, since you are providing a service to her and you appreciate the job but you need more money for the extra time and a pay increase, at least minimal wage which is around $6.50 an hour. Try to bargain with her, but you have the final say. You have to willing to walk away and say no.

3 dollars an hour? are you serious? ask for at least 8 AT LEAST plus if you go out of your way for her child, amking her food giving her a bath taking her out well that asds up everyday food costs gas costs etc it doesnt seem like much but 300$ for 2 weeks thats 150$ a week for FULL time thats bull.

Ask for more money. You have nothing to lose here as you are practically working for nothing. At the same time look for another couple whose kids you can take care of. Lots of times there will be some in the local Catholic Church Bulletin looking for a nanny. Good luck. At least you gained some experience and know what to expect.

You need to just tell her! She is taking advantage of you. I think you should say since she is bringing her earlier that you want another $200.00, because at this point, sounds like you are the one raising her and she is bleeding into "Your Time". She can do that or send the child to a day care, which will be a lot more expensive- you have the upper hand, use it.

I'd demand $8-$10 an hour. At least your not doing it for family where right now I'm getting $10/day for 5:30a.m. - 3:30p.m. Monday-Friday.

I'm actually watching my cousins right now, I just feed them and they get sleepy, easy business.

You are being taken advantage of. Ask for more money, nannies should get at least $10 an hour for taking care of brats.

It all depends. I think your rates are rather cheap. But, put this way, you are charging 30 dollars a day. In many cities and towns 20 or 30 dollars a day is the going rate.

in my area you pay 30.00 a day for new born 6 weeks -2 years and 20 a day for 2-5 year old ones i live in virginia.
most daycare's are open from 6:30am - 6:00 pm and the rate stayes the same even if they there all day.

Christopher P
Depending on your area, daycare rates are easily $300 PER WEEK. Many times it is closer to $500 per week. And that's usually for a 6-8 hour day.

yes! you should be getting much much more
i know one girl who got $20 an hour, because it was so late (it was actually 2 hours less than what you work!) you should totally ask the parents of the child if they will give you more money, or otherwise you will not sitter for the kid that early in the day and that late in the evening.

if its all tax free...you cant really complain..but yeah..now shes ripping you off lol..ask for more money..or tell her ya cant take the kid till 7.30 am
