Cancel the cable TV. You shouldn't be leasing 3 cars either.

Drop things that are not essential, like highspeed internet, cable TV, Netflix...etc. Your health should come first.

jharr412
Buy groceries first , and pay bills with anything that's left.

food is more important than paying your bills...eat first..then square away your bills....in the meantime...see if you qualify for food stamps...this is a very serious matter and I'm sorry for your situation...

don't listen to blunt honesty. Only file for bankruptcy if there is absolutely nothing you can do.

As for your food, try cutting back on things you don't necessarily need. Like TV, Internet, cell phones. I'm just naming a couple of things. You know what you do and don't need, try cutting back on those things first before taking drastic measures.

I know what it's like to not be able to afford anything.
Good luck!

Try living within your means.

go to a money management place and let them re-arrange your bills, and contact whom you owe...they will take a certain amount each week and distribute it among the people you owe until the bills are paid....it worked for us...takes awhile but the bills got paid.....good luck

See about any kind of food pantry that your town might have or even community meals. At least you're admitting that you need some help. Some people are too proud to do so. Check with the Salvation Army, too. I'm sure they can help you or they can refer you to the right place.

You must have food. A roof over your heads and food are absolutely necessary. What everyone else so fars has said is good, get rid of any unnecessary things, like the best in cable TV, get just the basic. Sell things in your home that can bring in money. Call your creditors and tell them you are having trouble paying and try to work out a deal, they may drop the interest. Go to credit counselling. If worse comes to worse, bankrupcy

gawgi@verizon.net
Do not go to one of those agencies that advertise on TV. Look in the blue pages of your local phone book...at least that is where they list them here...contact a credit counselling service. In some communities, they are actually free and funded by local businesses who would rather get their money than not.

If none of these are available to you, a frank chat with a manager at your local bank may help, especially if you have an auto loan or a mortgage there. You would be surprised how helpful they can be. Don't ever be too proud to consider the Salvation Army. They do a lot to help folks who made mistakes or had something terrible happen to destory their finances. I know that here, they will help with things like utility bills, and they will know where you should go, in your local community, to get yourself back on track financially.

In the interim, they also operate food banks at the local Salvation Army Headquarters. Catholic Social Services usually has a food bank. There are tons of them around, especially if you live in or near a city. Use them. You have to feed your family and pride can't get in the way.

In the meantime, you could try to contact your creditors by yourself and see if they would be willing to maybe close the credit card and spread out the payments at a lower rate. Some of them will even give you a lower interest rate if you cancel the card and make regular payments.

How do I know this??? I used to be the one at a church (big church all kinds of folks) we went to a while back who steered folks like you to the available community resources.

Simple - Do you have a cell phone? Get rid of it. Do you have cable? - cancel it. Do you own a car and live in a city with decent mass transit? Get rid of it. Are you clipping coupons? Buying generics/ store brands? How many credit cards do you have? One is all you need. If you can't control your credit card spending have your bank set a max credit limit of lets say $500 or so. That way you have it for emergencies but can't go totally wild. Xmas presents this year can be an assortment of homemade cookies.

howjay1
Food stamps. Contact your local Dept. of Social Services. The suggestions that you go to a local Food Bank may tempoarily help you out.

Check your local SRS for any assistance you might qualify for.
Check local churches for any assistance they might be able to help you with. (Some will give a certain amount toward your bills every few months.)
Check local churches and food pantrys for possible assistance.

It gets hard sometimes, but you have to do what you have to do to get back on your feet. Even if thatmeans swallowing your pride long enough to accept help from places you'd never thought you'd need it.

Even if you don't believe in God, or agree with the teachings of any local church, if you pay a visit, you'd be surprised with the resources they have to offer. They might have a food bank or know one that's close they can refer you to.

Cancel cable. Sell your tv. This will save you money and cut down on your electric bill.

Try to get food stamps

Get an additional part time job.

It won't be pleasant but it will help you until you can learn to run your finances better

keep all your lights off use candles, only use lights where you absolutely need them. do not leave them on when you arent home(the candles or the lights) try to pay most the balance on all your bills, leave a little. you will owe the next month a little more on them but you can also decide which are a nessessity and which arent... i don't find that cable is a nessassary bill try basic, and if you have internet connection through cable try using dsl... not much of a difference, it's wayy faster then dial up and only 5 times slower then cable plus a lot less expensive...
