I put some money, in cash, in my bank friday and my balance is still saying i have nothing. Does anyone know how long cash takes to clear? I put a cheque in yesterday and it said it will clear friday, i thought cash was quicker!

All my accounts are with the halifax and i agree with you that cash should be instant unless you deposited the cash via a cash machine then it will take a few working days. The weekend doesn't help matters either. |

I beleive your balance may say nothing bcause the cheque may be on hold is the chq amt more than the amt of cash in the account if so this may ;be a reason for a zero balance will hold the cash as well until the cheque is cleared if 2moro--friday still the same thing that may need you to call bank....but this is what i suspect has happened!! |

im with the halifax ..if u put cash through their express machine it will clear striaght away ..if u put cash through their ATM machine it will take 3 working days 2 clear ..if you payed it over the counter it will clear striaght away ..yet i dont think the halifax do that now ..all cash has to be deposited in the machines ..hope this helps |

I had a problem some time ago when I found I was being charged various sums, for TAPS, which is an electronic transfer. Since the local manager did not punch his computer immediately to make the refund of charges, I wrote to Head Office, and found charges are set locally but no ones time is involved in TAPS. HO sent him a stiff letter and when he asked me to have a word in office, He said" Now what is all these fairy stories?" My response was firm and loud "Don´t you talk to me about fairy stories. You are dealing with many people. I am dealing only one, - you, and I recorded all of your excuses over the past two months, So We know who is telling fairy stories. He quickly said as a "favour to you"." Thats all I want.". And he refunded all the charges. Not been charged since. Cash is immediately in your account . So -- any difficulties locally-- go talk to the manager and if no joy, write to head office. But keep your complaint brief. |

Cash clears instantly.
Did you get a receipt for the transaction? If yes look it out and go to any branch tomorrow it and query the situation.
Was it directly to a teller or was it via an express pay in system?
If you didn't get a receipt get all details of the transaction and go to the branch where you lodged the cash. It may be down to a simple inputting error by the teller or something more suspicious!
But either way go to the branch and ask what's going on.
This is also a good lesson to remind you always to get receipts for any transaction!! |

It depends how you deposited the money, if you took it to the cashier then it should be available the same day. However if you used the paying in system on the cash machines, then it can take upto 5 working days and I believe it is roughly the same amount of time for a cheque.
Hope that Helps. If you are concerend though then just give Halifax a ring, they are really helpful and polite on the phone 0845 020 30 40 is the telephone number.
