Yes. No. Yes. Some will, some won't .
Yes. All the signs are there - everyone is over-extended, living on credit and hope, the economy is being propped up to the tune of billions, and GDP is falling, savings are non existent for a lot of people. Few have more than they need for the next week, let alone a prolonged period.
No. We are living the life style "Ce la vie" living for today alone. Being frugal or doing without are almost sins in our consumer driven society.
Yes. You only have to view the flow on effect of the recent stock market fluctuations to see the possible effects of a long term drop.
Some will, some won't. Those who are prepared (and few are their numbers) may do better initially but it will be those who are prepared to adapt, change, make do or do without, those who have skills that go beyond the electronic, that will do best.
Society will change, but how long that change last depends greatly on how well we learn the lessons this time around. |

Ready for another Great Depression? That is an oxymoron. On the other hand, the first Great Depression was caused by the government trying to prevent a MILD recession. Given the policies supported by many politicians in both parties, the next one will make the first look mild. |

Well just remember this, as bad as the depression was, the unemployment was, on average, around 20%. That means even during that never-before seen time of financial and economic crisis, MOST PEOPLE HAD JOBS. We will be fine. |

A great depression?!? - do you know what caused the great depression? We were on the gold standard and instead of shifting the gold from one country to another our government got scared and kept it - governement intervention helped to create the great depression.
Do I think we are headed for another - absolutely not - you can see evidence of our resilient economy after 9/11 - even after the second attack EVER on American soil and TWO wars - um the jobless rate it is lower than the average over the last 4 decades.
Maybe a recession - but those are expected every 9-12 years historically - it is a way of our economy to be correcting. Want to prepare for it? Pay off your debt - be educated, and provide knowlege or a service that people want and deisre and you will be fine. |
