Are most people in the U.K struggling financially?

we dont do duvets
The problem in the UK is that the cost of living does not match the average income. This is why so many are in debt because they simply cant afford to live on what they bring in :)

Yes I imagine so everyone seems to have one of: a credit card, overdraft, catlogue etc and falling behind with it... or 'just' gettin by without debt but with no spare money.... welcome to the UK I suppose.

It's almost like the Uk is a 'buy now pay later' country

I have worked for nearly thirty years and have always struggled with debt. I have never had a salary that far exceeds my expenses and am always skint at a least a week after payday.

Yes. What with extortionate taxes, pay, rubbish, council, alcohol, fat(foods) and so the list goes on. We are going to Cyprus, one tax for everything and it doesnt rain so much. If the dropped road tax and kept fuel as it is, people would pay for what they use rather than pay your road tax and use your car once every few weeks if that. This Government sucks.

yup hubby has to do one days overtime a month to break even. no we are not bogged down with debts, mortgage etc. we live modest lives dont go out and dont go on holiday. we rent our home and are getting stung by high council tax. i get meagre benefits because we have 1 child and 1 on way so i cant work

Whipass Chick
if you've got kids your probably better off on benefits funnily enough.
i struggled for a while until I got rid of the credit cards and catalogues.

If people lived within their means, they would not struggle but with credit being so easily available and the young wanting everything their parents spent 30 years getting together yesterday then there is going to be this problem. My husbands income has not significantly gone up for the past 10 years but everything else is 200% higher,so yes,we struggle to keep abreast of the increases. We do'nt smoke, drink moderately at home week ends, rarely buy clothes and only have 1 cheap holiday a year so we are not extravagent.I get really fed up when I hear how much pop stars, footballers and the like get paid and what they spend it on.My husbands job everybody in the country relies on,what is he? he is a lorry driver, delivering all your needs in all weathers and all times of day and night. What does he earn? £220 per week gross for 40 hours! He has to work another 20 hours a week and has 4 nights out just to bring home a living wage.

A lot are , credit is too easily obtainable and not so easy to get rid of. Wages dont rise enough to cover living cost rises, example my wage went up by £7 week this year, rent rose by 14 a month council tax 10 already I am down and thats before petrol rises, water etc, food. I have worked for the nhs for 28 years and I struggle more now than I did when I earned my first £24. Now I earn over £200 a week.
Everyone lives to their means and above that is why.

yes, instead of receiving second hand goods in perfect condition people would rather buy brand new on the never never. last year i tried to give away a beautiful settee and rocking chair that had been recovered, everyone admired it but when we moved and it would not fit into the new living room no-one wanted it. its the same for most things, people will not wait and save up they have to have it NOW ! it is too easy to get credit and even easier to spend it all, no-one cuts their cloth anymore and that is why we have feral children on the streets because both parents are at work trying to pay of their debts. i am not struggling, i am 38 have no mortage have money in the bank, owe no-one nothing and my husband works part time. i have been in debt and it was our own fault, constantly living beyond our means but we got out of trouble and now save for things instead, with todays pampered spoilt children things can only get worse for the next generation as they truly have no idea of the value of money.

Some ,,,,but some try to live beyond there means,,,,if This country was that bad ,,,,why do People still want to come here,,,,

No, I don't believe "most" people in the UK are struggling financially.

There's a significant number living beyond their means on credit though but that is a choice they have made for themselves. No one needs a 42" plasma tv or three holidays a year but plenty want them anyway.
