Prodigal Son
Are you a saver, or a spender... and why?
And why do you save, or spend?
I've always been a saver, nearly got enough to buy my house (I'm 20) and another 2 years and that's me!! can't wait. Really hope you can answer this question and tell me your reasons for spending or saving,

Thank you!!

I think I'm both. I treat my savings as a bill and transfer money twice a month when I'm paying bills.

But I like to have fun too. My boyfriend and I like to go on small trips, we treat ourselves to dinner out, golf clubs (him), shoes (me), and generally enjoy life.

I save, because I like to be prepared and I love seeing that balance grow. I spend, because you can't take it with you.

Also, we're both homeowners, and it sucks to be hit with an unexpected expense so it's nice to have that cushion to fall on, because we are 100% against taking equity out of our homes unless its for a downpayment on a new home.

Congrats. I wish I had your mind set at your age. I didn't learn the appreciate savings until I hit my 30s.

I used to be a saver. That's how I managed to retire at 55. Now I'm spending it.

i am a total saver! i feel guilty when i spend too much money cause it's usually on stuff i dont need. i opened up a savings account a few years back and now have a few thousand saved up and it really makes me feel good to know that. i'm 25 and most people my age are just worried about driving a new car so it can help them get some a s s! so you can say i save because it makes me feel great about myself.

I'm a spender...can't hang on to a damn dime! i spend the money on anything I want/need at the time...my reasons are, i guess i don't make enough money to cover everything, and I'd rather have stuff than pay my bills.

I'm a saver, because I'm not crazy. Spending all your money on stuff you don't need is not going to make anybody happy, so doing that is basically an insane act. In fact, it's irritating to look at all the stuff you've bought because you were a sucker. So be sane, and do what makes you happy.

I figure that by the time I get old, there'll be no retirement and no social security. I hope I'm wrong, of course, but that's what I'm planning on. You can't get rich by spending all your money, so I don't.

I have noticed, by the way, that when you spend money to try to get rich (let's say you buy an apartment house or something) it makes women mad. All my friends wives are the same way. They don't make a distinction between investing and spending. To them it's the same thing, so if you're trying to get rich by investing in something that's got cash flow, they'll fight you tooth and nail.

I'm a bartender that means cash money at the end of the night. so the next day if I see something I want I buy it thinking "oh, I'll just make the money back tomorrow." Stupid. I am learning that I should just go deposit the cash cause you can't do this job forever.

Neither, I have serious money invested, but keep no more then 3 months worth of cash (about 30K) in the bank. I tend to be pretty frugal and not spend very much.

Spender,

I would like to be a saver but I think i'm a spender because I am materialistic and I didn't have much growing up. I don't go for all the name brands etc but I am concerned with having the appearance of being more well off than I am.

a house at 20 , was you working from the age of 5 by any chance or houses sell for nothing where you live?? ... we couldnt earn in ten years the cost of a house here ... thats without living expenses.

as for the buying a house 17, where do you live? you cant get a mortgage in the UK at that age .....

Im definlty a spender. I brought my first house when i was 17 tho and thats all paid off. but i have never been able to save, money burns a hole in my pocket!! You cant take it with you after all and you only live once, you might as well enjoy what time we have!
