Mr. Naked | Are you always worried about having enough money to live on? |
Additional Details I do, I make a pretty good living, about $87,000 a year but I have to support 6 people so it is rough sometimes. I live a life of quiet desperation.

No, Mr Naked... I don't worry about money all the time.
To reduce your worry, you need to have a back up plan. Have some savings invested somewhere that are easily accessible (like a cash management account at your bank) just in case you lose your job, or get injured and can't work for a while, or your car breaks down.
Also, I earn about a quarter of what you do, but I'm a terrible tightarse. If you live more frugally, you might find you have more to stash away for an emergency, and more money to invest for your long term future and the future of your brood.
I suggest a few of the following.
Check your local newspaper for factory sales outlets. I live near three. One is good for canned goods, and the other offers 'reject' cakes of soap for ten cents each. I plan a big trip and stock up when I go there. Because some of the canned goods are slightly underweight, or incorrectly packaged, they are sold at heavy discounts. This saves me heaps, and I always have a well stocked pantry.
Buy your washing powder and toilet paper at discount stores in bulk. I get my washing powder from Kmart (I live in Australia, so I'm not sure how it is where you are) but I wait til it goes on sale. Sometimes they knock a few dollars off the price of one of the brands I like, so I get a 12 kilogram carton, which saves me about $2-$3 a kilo off what I'd pay at the supermarket. And I very rarely have to buy washing powder. Buy whatever you can in bulk, so long as it doesn't perish easily. Rice, flour, nuts, dishwashing liquid -- it all helps keep your expenses down if you get it in bulk, and even more so if it's 'on sale'.
Always take your own lunch to work from home. I make curries and pasta dishes, and freeze them, so I can reheat them in the work microwave. This saves me heaps, (it is far cheaper to put on an extra handful of rice and stretch some leftovers than it is to buy a pie and a can of coke) and I never waste food doing this. It actually saves me hundreds of dollars a year.
If possible, grow some of your own vegies. For some very inexpensive plastic pipe and a small plastic funnel from the hardware store, we water our own vegies out of our shower recess. We just opened the inspection inlet that comes out from the wall of our house from the shower, inserted the funnel, hooked up the pipe, and let it drain on whatever garden bed looks the most thirsty. Having my own zucchinis, pumpkins, silverbeet, and other vegies saves me heaps at the grocery store. If you don't have a yard, you can still grow silverbeet or other vegies in pots.
Have a goal, and stay focussed. You'll get there in the end.
Best wishes |

No, Mr. Naked, I am not always worried about having enough money to live on. If I was, I would not be able to enjoy the money I do have on which I am now living. Peace. |

You don't mention what your lifestyle is. Do you own a home, if so, how much is your mortgage payment, do you have car payments, do you have toys like boats, motorcycles, and such?
There is no reason why you should be living in worry while making $87K per year even if you do support 6 people. It sounds like you may be living above your means or right at them. |

Yeah. esp. when you take in fact that what we americans have been ignoring certain nations have gotten more education and are on the brink I fear of out doing us, so where will that leave us? I am thinking of China, India anyone?
Plus with the bailout not been admin. the way we americans thought or paid for it just seems to get worse. I am afraid always. that is why I am back in college I have 2 degrees a bachelor's and a asst. and now back in school and in 2 yrs law school for int. law maybe I will survive.... hopefully |

Put yourself and 6 people on budget and start saving. Since you make a pretty good salalry, over time with large amount of savings balance, you will stop worrying about money altogether. |

Do you believe in Divine Providence? If you do I do not think there's anything to be worried about. I can only speak from a Christian Faith Experience perspective. If you do not believe this anyway, there is still nothing to worry about. Whether you have enough money. more of it or less of it to live by, as long as you have the capability to earn more, there's no room for worry. |

"Enough" is a relative term. If you always spend less than you make then you will always be getting richer and that worry declines.
For me now it is a matter of how well I can live on the money, not a matter of "enough". |
