Rich is a broad term - I have a great family, kids and G Kids, a great job that I am about to retire from and a wonderful community to live in. I make more money than I ever have and expect to live comfortably in retirement.
If I lived in the NE or California I probably would not be rich, in the Southeast I probably am.
What is your definition of rich? And why ask the question |

I have a lovely, caring and understanding wife, two excellent and talented sons, an interesting old house, a wide circle of acquaintance through a variety of interests and activities. I have most of my health still (though near retirement age) and quite a lot of my strength and all my hair. I have been lucky to travel fairly widely for work as well as for pleasure and I speak a little bit of the main European languages.
I have "lost" my parents and grandparents and several other relations and friends along the way but I feel them near when i need to stop and reflect and regroup. I still earn enough to pay my way (just!) and I have done so much in and with my life I could go now and feel replete. Yet God seems to be planning dessert.
Yes I am rich - and the more I try to give the richer i seem to get. It doesn't make sense but I offer it as a solution to "poverty". |

Depends how you define rich. Here in UK a poor man is in some respects as well off as a rich man, particularly when it comes to receiving medical treatment, which is free at point of need on the National Health.
I am by no means rich. I am however retired and own my own house outright. I suppose I could release the value of my property and use it to improve my living standard. Maybe I will do just that in a few years time.
On the whole, the British people are far more wealthy than they actually realize. About 75% of us own our own homes. All any of us need do is release that equity when we retire.
Is there a problem with that? Well yes. Especially if you have children. Because it means their 'inheritance' will simply disappear on your death.
I'm a batchelor, so it's not my problem. I plan to spend big in my later retirement. Now 66, plenty of time to plan, etc. |

Being rich is relative, everyone is poor compared to Bill Gates but most people in the developed world are much richer than the poor people of, say the Gambia.
